The Practice Match

Y/n and Suna practiced together every day (well, every night) leading up to the tournament. They experimented with new techniques and worked on their weaknesses, becoming good friends in the process. They often sat together during lunch, much to the annoyance of Y/n's admirers, who never missed a chance to pester Suna. However, Suna was unfazed and always found ways to distract her overly enthusiastic fans.

One day before the tournament, the volleyball coach decided to hold a practice match between the boys' and girls' teams. And who was the most excited? The Miyas, of course! Atsumu was especially thrilled, with Osamu not far behind. Suna was eager to see Y/n play with her team, as he had only witnessed her practicing alone or with him.

With just a couple of days until the competition, the girls were busy analyzing the boys' techniques and strategizing on how to counter them. Their biggest concern was the Miyas' quick attacks, but they knew Suna was no ordinary middle blocker; he was also an exceptional spiker with a keen sense of where to place his shots. The girls, however, were determined to surprise the boys with a comeback attack they had been working on together.

Today was the practice match: Inarizaki Girls vs. Boys. The venue was the girls' gym, and the boys stood outside in a line, eager to get in. Suna and the twins could hardly wait to see Y/n. As the coach opened the doors, the boys entered to find the girls already warming up. It was Y/n's turn to spike, and she positioned herself, controlled her breathing, dashed toward the net, and jumped to deliver a powerful spike that no one saw coming until it hit the ground. The boys were left speechless by her incredible skill. Atsumu leaned over to Suna and whispered something in his ear.

The practice match kicked off with the girls winning the toss and choosing to serve. Y/n was the first to take the serve, and the boys looked slightly apprehensive after witnessing her spike. The coach blew the whistle, and Y/n launched a jump serve that sailed cleanly over the net for an easy point. The boys exchanged blank stares while Y/n's teammates cheered her on. She took her position for her next serve and executed a float serve, which Aran barely managed to receive. The ball returned to the girls' side, and their libero called out, "Chance ball!" passing it to the setter, who tossed it to the Ace. Y/n spiked it with all her might, breaking through the boys' two-person block to score again.

Back at the serving line, Y/n delivered a jump floater that Osamu received, passing it to Atsumu, who set it for Aran. However, Aran was met with a powerful block from the girls' setter, giving another point to the girls. Y/n served again, this time with a strong spike that was received by the male libero. Atsumu set it to Osamu, who executed a quick spike, finally scoring a point for the boys.

Suna entered the game after the boys lost the second set to the girls, who were leading 3-1. The next set began with the boys taking the lead, and they managed to win another set after a tough battle. What was happening to the girls? It seemed they were a bit distracted—love and butterflies in their stomachs making their movements sluggish.

The practice match continued for several hours, with brief breaks in between, ending around 4 PM. The boys emerged victorious with a score of 4-3. How could they not win? With Y/n's crush, Suna, on the opposing team, she struggled to play at her usual level. Despite being in a similar position, Suna didn't exert himself and secretly hoped for Y/n's success. This dynamic didn't go unnoticed by the setters from both teams, but they chose to remain silent about it.

Everyone was exhausted, so the coach decided to treat both teams for their impressive performance in the practice match. He was confident in their abilities as they prepared for the tournament—after all, this was Inarizaki.
