(The soldiers of Marthala, all asleep. Laoa steps into their midst and calls his magic to hide his face. Just before he does so, Itolias comes in. Seeing the godly visitor, he quickly hides behind a chest.)
LAOA:
Listen, soldiers, heroes of Marthala,
For it is I, the goddess Mirisel.
I have a task for you of great importance;
Do as I say, and all will be well.
(He lifts his arms and the soldiers get up, still asleep.)
Rise, as I command you, to my calling,
Follow me into the depth of night,
I will bring Marthala victory
With you, an army of the good and light.
(He walks off stage and the sleepwalking soldiers follow him. Itolias comes out of his hiding place and looks after them.)ITOLIAS:
This is a trick! I must follow them swiftly,
So I will know the place that they were led.
But the Kaveyans will attack by morning;
I must return before the sky turns red.
(He runs after the soldiers.)
