Icarus, son of Daedalus the inventor, was gifted wings from his father to help the two of them escape the Labyrinth. Unfortunately, the wings were made from wax, so when Icarus flew too close to the sun, his wings melted and he fell into the sea. Icarus wanted to touch the sky, but it was that desire that led him to fall into the deep darkness of the sea where Thanatos took his soul to the even darker realm of Hades.
