St Mary's Hospital 11:45 Friday morning
Eyes blinked open to see a blur before images started to form slowly. Where the hell am I?. Was this a hospital bed. The room felt cool and well air conditioned. The walls were all a horrid beige colour, the same as the ceiling which had one of those fans on it, the noise was a simple light buzzing as the blades rotated.. The smell was like alcohol almost as if the room had been sanitised recently. The scent was quite overpowering. There was a window facing her bed and the blinds partly opened, she could just make out the figures beyond it.
She could hear a chatter of ladies from outside the room.
She focused her concentration on the words "She was wearing a gold wedding band; we must find her husband" One of the nurses noticed she was awake and rushed to be by her side "Good morning, miss. I'm nurse Bradley, Becky. How are you feeling?" the ladies caring nature showed through "I'm okay, bit of a headache. What happened?"
"You were in an accident, nothing to worry about, you hurt your head. You haven't been out of the surgery that long. It's a promising sign you woke up" she gave a warm smile. "Now let's get some details" She nodded "Name?"
The woman was rolling her eyes thinking, and squinting "I don't know" the nurse frowned "Do you know where you live?" the lady didn't reply. She looked into the nurse Becky's eyes, speaking unsurely, taking a small breath "Why can't I remember anything?" she wrapped her arms around herself. She wanted to squeeze the memories back into herself and make sense of all this.
"It might be a concussion or a small side effect of the surgery, I will consult the doctor, okay. First though, I will replace you drip"
"What is in it?"
"Just saline, it will help your energy levels return" Becky's hand slipped, the syringe leaving her hand, before she had time to think about it.
The lady had caught it mere seconds from it leaving her hand, catching the nurse of guard "How did you...?" Becky shook her head in disbelief "The doctor will be pleased your reflexes seem okay" another warm smile "I will be right back" Becky had never seen such reflexes, seemed even inhuman. Maybe she was a trained fighter or something. It was strange, to be sure.
The doctor entered giving her a check-up and grinned "I'm impressed with how well you're doing, other than the concussion, you are perfectly okay. As soon as we find a family member. We will be able to discharge you" his brown eyes searched hers, hoping she would gain some recognition. The doctor could not help but feel a little protective over her. He felt as if she was an innocent. Her expressions of curiosity mixed with confusion.
"Can I discharge myself?" her eyebrows raised.
God, I don't want to stay here. Everyone is so helpful and friendly. I don't feel safe. I feel caged. He frowned at her "We wouldn't recommend it, we need you in a safe, controlled environment" they left leaving the lady wondering, what the hell happened to her and where was this supposed husband the staff were talking about.
She looked down at her body, she did not recognise anything. The scars on her arms nor the strange tattoo on her thumb. Which depicted a smiley face. She smiled at it. Why would I choose such a childish tattoo. Am I a childish person, am I a child. She felt for breasts. Apparently not. Am I old. Am I young. Who am I.
10 minutes later
A man knocked and entered her room; he was holding Lillies.
He was tall with beautiful chestnut coloured hair, with a slight hint of gold in it. His smile was the kind of smile that drove the lady's crazy, she was sure of it. His white long sleeve top had buttons on the top of it, a few of them undone. Revealing, oh my, chest hair. She may not know anything right now, but she knew the man standing at the foot of the bed was extremely handsome.
