The steam had a sweet smell from the hotel body wash. She was in heaven; she loved the feeling of the water washing over her. She made sure not to get her head wet until Colin had checked it for her. Make sure the wound was okay.
She stepped onto the hard surface, a flash of images of people holding guns on her appeared. Was she a fugitive. Was she a monster. She put the robe on and walked into the bedroom. Colin was laying on the bed with the television on tying his hardest not to look concerned. She stood at the foot of the bed, hands on her hips "What's wrong"
He shook his head "Nothing"
"Colin?"
"You're not married"
She took a short breath, speaking slowly "How would you know that?" her question softened only by her confused brow.
"It's not a wedding ring, I think... I think it's some sort of tracking device" he motioned her closer "Look" he showed her what he'd found. She was so close that as she looked at the tiny item, he found himself smelling her hair, shaking the motion away before she noticed.
The food arrived, he felt relieved, break the tension he knew she was feeling. Jane ate so fast like she hadn't eaten in decades. Then thanked him by kissing him on the cheek "Thank you, Colin"
"I remembered something" she stopped for a second to compose herself "I was surrounded by men with guns" she looked down "They looked scared of me" she shuddered "Who am I, Colin. What am I?" her voice strained. He pulled her onto the bed and held her until she fell asleep. They didn't speak the rest of the night.
Colins eyes opened, Jane was sleeping, holding him tightly. Her robe had loosened a little around her bust, she was half out.
He needed to get out. Get her some clothes, before he started to perv on her.
He found her some loose trousers and smart but comfortable tops, a hoodie, a coat, a nightdress, underwear and toiletries. That should be it hopefully.
When he got back to the room, he could see Joan staring out of the French doors to the balcony. She was stunning in the light. Her face glancing up at the sky the light of the moon highlighting her cheeks.
Jane thanked Colin and changed into some comfortable clothes. He brought his rucksack in. He smirked "I thought we could go on the run, what do you think?" Colin was amazing and he already wanted to risk his life for her. At least she knew she had at least one friend in this world.
"Pack the rucksack now!!!" she shouted
"What, what!!" he obeyed but didn't know why.
"They're here" with that they grabbed the bags and made their way down a fire escape. He rushed to his car; she pulled him from it "No.
If they know we are here, they know this is your car" She pulled his cap down more. They crossed to get to the bus stop "Who are they?"
"I don't know. But I can feel them" she shook, she looked fearful, more for him than herself. She had her back to the hotel, she looked into Colins eyes "Look over my shoulder, like you're hugging me" he looked.
Four big men in black uniforms and guns made their way inside the building. He slowly mumbled to himself "What the fuck!" how did she know what was going to happen.
"Oh shit! Get down!" he ducked but there was nothing there, she quickly grabbed a glass bottle out of a bin and launched it at the man about to leave. It caught his hand, gun falling to the ground with a thud.
Colin watched in a confusing display of awe and terror creeping his features. She pulled him up "Run!"
The pavement quickened under them, she motioned to the park. Luckily it was still moon lit, so hopefully they wouldn't find them.
Jane suddenly grabbed Colins hand and started to pull him closer. In a swift movement, she grabbed his hips and she threw him up a tree like he was nothing but a soft toy. His arms hanging down either way of a branch. She followed fast behind. Colin was in absolute shock, he tried to talk but she quickly stopped him with her hand just as one of the soldiers walked past on a walkie talkie.
It was then that Colin realised he had a fear of heights. It was not the time, or place to get another fear under his belt, this one would be placed under men with firearms and just guns in general.
She shook her head slowly at him before releasing his mouth. He watched her, confusion riddled over his face. He was scared. Really scared, but not of her.
They both jumped from the tree, Colin couldn't help feeling a little emasculated still from being shoved up that damn Oak to hide for a couple of hours. But he was happy with the company.
Was she a superhero. She certainly seemed that way, and if he knew anything from his childhood with his nose in comic books, that was it.
She held his hand as they kept a steady pace through the grass to exit the park and make their way back to civilisation.
He couldn't talk, just dragged behind her like an glorified lap dog. God, he felt pathetic. She motioned him into a hairdresser, she accepted his frown "Excuse me, do you keep wigs?"
"We do yes, come I will show you" she got escorted to another room where there was a beautiful range of natural hair wigs, she picked up the most natural long-haired style, with a fringe "This one please" motioning to the item.
The lady picked it up taking it to the checkout "Do you mind if I wear it straight away...?" the lady nodded "...of course, taking it straight back out of the bag" with a smile. Colin handed the payment over and left.
