"Alright let's see..." I mumbled out, turning the cup around to see who it belonged to. "Katie!" I lightly called out "I have an order here for Katie!" I repeated. Setting the coffee down and sliding it across the counter.

Brushing off my apron, I headed over to the sink and began scraping some dishes. "Now you're lucky I don't charge you for those muffins you destroyed" I commented with a smirk.

Earning a loud groan from Jasmine, who was currently sweeping around the tables.

"They weren't destroyed, they were just a little crispy" She shrugged, causing me to snicker to myself.

"Well we can try and sell them for buy one get two free, but I'm going to be up all night because of you" I teased. Laying the blender out to dry I then got to work on the counters. Knowing damn well that I couldn't afford for anything to go to waste.

"The woman who just left got a double shot of expresso, she's got to be working the night shift or something. Which reminds me, can you turn the open sign off, please?" I asked, pulling back my braided hair and putting it into a low ponytail.

I watched as Jasmine did so, dragging her feet might I add.

"Okay you're free to go, now be careful walking home" I instructed, earning a large smile from the young teenage girl who immediately ran to the back to collect her things.

"Thank you, Nina! I'll see you on Thursday!" She called out, practically skipping out of the store as I just waved.

Making sure to lock the door behind her shortly after she left, before heading to the back to grab some ingredients to remake the muffins.

"Well I hope people are in the mood for blueberry instead of chocolate tomorrow" I mumbled to myself, starting to pour all the ingredients together.

Looking at the time, I figured I could pop these in the oven. Run upstairs to my apartment, take a quick shower, and then finish up down here by midnight.

But right after putting the muffins in the oven, I heard an obnoxious amount of car horns blaring outside my store. This was normal for New York, but this amount of horns going off meant something was going on.

Walking over to the glass windows that faced the street, I raised an eyebrow at a shorter male running across the street. He looked around 4 and a half feet tall and had long brown hair with some short bangs that barely covered his eyes. To be honest, he looked terrified. But not as terrified as the poor salesman who was dressed as a clown, just trying to hand out pamphlets.

"Aww poor Martin" I whispered, pressing my face against the glass as the dark-headed male continued yelling. I couldn't understand what he was saying until I unlocked my door and stepped out.

"Get back you witch! You may have all these other people fooled, but you aren't fooling me!" He yelled, snatching the pamphlets out of Martins's hands and immediately tossing them to the ground." You lost your power now, what are you going to do?" He asked in a condescending tone. "Now tell me! Why did you bring me here?!" He yelled, pulling out a small dagger in the process. That is when I decided to get involved.

"Hey, Martin! What's going on?" I asked, jogging up to the two males. Martin was practically shaking, at this point, I couldn't tell if it was because of the knife or the fact that it was below freezing.

"I...I don't know, I think this guy is on drugs" Martin whimpered out.

"I am on no such thing! I am on my feet, now you tell me who you are!" The young male insisted.

Okay, I had to intervene.

"Sweetheart, you're in New York. Are you lost?" I asked, practically treating him like a child because of his behavior. After a few moments. He finally turned his gaze from Martin and looked at me. His eyes somewhat widened as he lowered his weapon immediately and in a somewhat clumsy manner.

"My apologies my lady, I thought your friend had brought me here." He began, doing a courteous bow.

In the meantime, I slyly waved Martin off. Signaling him to leave as I kept his attacker at bay.

"And I am lost, could I possibly borrow a map or could you point me in the direction of Erebor?" He asked sweetly, causing me to tilt my head in confusion.

"Ere-who?"

"Erebor, you know- the lonely mountain?" He further explained, before somewhat bouncing on the tips of his heels "Middle Earth? You know what that is- right?" He asked almost hopelessly. Throwing his arms around as he spoke. He was acting as if he was giving me common knowledge.

Wrapping my arms around myself to try and warm up, I shook my head as it began to snow.

"You're in New York, there is no such place as Middle Earth," I told him.

After hearing the news, he just stood there in shock.

"You've got to be... no- that can't be possible, my brothers are waiting on me. They're counting on me" he mumbled, fiddling with his thumbs.

I gave him a moment, but he just looked petrified. I felt bad for the poor guy, it was getting dark and it was so cold.

I felt gracious, after all, it was the holiday season.

"Do you want to come inside and get something warm to eat? I can show you a map inside. Maybe you'll recognize something?" I then offered, pointing back at my shop.
It took him a second, but he then nodded.

Guiding him back into my small establishment, I locked the doors behind us and sat him down at one of the tables.

Where he easily began taking off the armor from his shoulders, he looked exhausted.

"How long had you been out there?" I asked casually, making him some hot chocolate in the process.

"Since sunrise my lady" he responded, keeping his voice strong, which didn't match his pitiful expression. "One moment I was in the lonely mountain with my brother, the next moment- I was here" he explained. Shaking his head in frustration.

"You don't have to call me 'my lady' By the way, my name is Nina" I introduced myself, walking back over to his table and placing the cup of hot chocolate in front of him. "And it sounds like you've had a long day, you can stay here for the night. It's too cold to be wandering the streets" I insisted.

"It's nice to meet you lady Nina, I'm Kili" he bowed his head. "And thank you, I can assure you I'll be on my best behavior" Kili promised. Causing me to smile.

Okay, we'll work on the lady part.

"Oh, you better me!" I hummed out, walking over to grab one of the maps I had sitting with all the brochures for the tourists I had left out. However, once returning to him, I covered my mouth.

Not only did he have hot chocolate all over his face, but he was currently unfeathering a pigeon. When he finally looked up from what he was doing, he grinned." Now that drink is amazing- what is it made of?" Kili asked, before holding up the lifeless bird. "And I was thinking we could cook this up, I caught it earlier today, but haven't found any place to make a fire" he explained, taking a knife out and chopping its head off.

"It will be my gift to you" Kili continued, causing me to gag.
