"Eden Quinn get your butt out of bed." The voice was high pitched and earsplitting. Its tone awoke me from where ever I had been living in the past couple hours. I groaned, barely rolling over towards whoever was calling my name.
"Seriously Eden, get up," They shouted again as my comforter slowly slipped from over me. I struggled, thrashing trying to grab onto the fabric and hold onto the warmth. We tugged and clashed until it slipped my grip leaving me exposed.
The cool breeze was felt too quickly. The one downside about having an apartment above the garage was the tendency for it to be cold. I crunched up bring my knees to my chest. My face resigned smothered in the multitude of pillows before my eyes slowly started to open. At first it was all a blur. I tilted my head to the side getting a good glance at the intruder while it slowly became clearer.
"You're gonna be late," Anna groaned displeased at the icy glare I was giving her.
"Eden," she whined again putting her foot on the mattress and shaking it letting my head bob uncontrollably on a sore and tired neck.
"Anna," I mimicked her tone, "Oh, how I don't miss sharing a room with you. I'm coming," I muttered into the pillow, stretching my arms above my head. My back arching stretching until I shriveled back down to size.
"You look like hell." Anna smirked giving me a once over stepping closer as if to examine my appearance, "and you smell worse." Her nose cringed after taking a whiff.
It didn't take much speculation to paint a picture of what I looked like. Last night's clothes were plastered to my body with sweat and I could almost feel the weight of my hair standing straight up upon my head. I groaned running a hand through my hair, attempting to get it out of my mouth only to have it get stuck in the tangles.
By the time I rolled out of bed she was gone. I heard her heavy foot prints stomping down the set of stairs heading for the backyard. Usually she got in trouble for coming into my room but when I glanced at the clock I realized why. School started at 8:45 and the clock read 8:15 already. Normally this would mean I still had time but considering the fact I had to shower, get ready, eat breakfast, mentally preparing myself and drive to school meant I was pretty crunched.
Anna was right about one thing, I smelt. Skipping a shower wasn't even an option if I wanted to show my face in public. After the shower I pulled the brush viciously through my hair, tears gathering in my eyes while I ripped through the knots. I stood there looking in the mirror wondering what had changed between Friday and Monday that made me look so different.
Nothing, everything or maybe something in-between.
I leaned over the sink, the sharp corner digging into my stomach as I examined myself. My eyes were the same hue, nose was straight yet sharp and lips lightly pink. I looked the same but I couldn't understand how I felt so different.
