I wake up to the deafening sound of my alarm clock. With a groan, I reach out a hand to shut it off, blinking bleary eyes at the glaring red numbers that read 6:30 AM. Time for another day of school.

I drag myself out of bed and into the bathroom, going through the motions of getting ready. Brush my hair, wash my face, put on the uniform that somehow still smells like chalk and old books even after it's been washed.

I glance at myself in the mirror. Same old me. Same old life. Little did I know, today was about to be anything but ordinary.

As I finish tying the laces of my school shoes, I walk towards the door, ready to head downstairs for breakfast. But as I reach for the door handle, something feels... different. I pause, frowning at my reflection in the mirror that hangs beside my door.

I gasp.

Sprouting from my head, where there was once only hair, are two elongated, wing-like horns, curving elegantly above my head. They shimmer with an iridescent sheen, beautifully strange and entirely out of place on my ordinary self.

"I... I have wings," I whisper, my heart hammering in my chest as I take in my transformed reflection. This couldn't be happening. This was beyond ordinary, beyond anything I've ever seen or heard of. I was just a normal girl.. Things like this don't just happen.

I held my hand up to feel them, to see if they were real or just my imagination. To my surprise, the wings felt like pure energy, and would sway when I touched them. Then I heard a shout "Y/N GET DOWN HERE, THE PANCAKES ARE GETTING COLD!" It was my mum

I frantically searched my wardrobe to find a hat, a beanie, anything that would cover these wings from being seen by anyone. I ended up finding a grey beanie with cat-ear shaped thingamabobs on it. Thankfully it was winter, so wearing a beanie wouldn't be uncommon.

My stomach rumbled, reminding me of the pancakes downstairs. I hurriedly threw on the beanie and ran down the stairs. I tripped and fell down, bracing myself for impact, I held out my hands...

and felt nothing except a slight pain in the palms of my hands? I opened my eyes to see the ground getting closer, green grass closing in on me. 'This is it.' I thought as I plummeted down. 'This is the end.' I closed my eyes again waiting for the harsh ground to swallow me up, and take me to hell.
