Regulus was sitting out on a balcony that is right off the main hallway upstairs. He was simply looking at the stars. He looked at many different constellations, but he kept looking back to Sirius' star. He jumped when he noticed footsteps approaching behind him. He turned sharply, but he was just met with the lopsided smile of James. James held his hands up in a silent promise that he wasn't planning anything.
Regulus turned around, and he found Sirius' star once more. He could feel James' presences next to him. He looked over, and he saw James already looking at him. James had a weird look in his eyes; but he turned away before Regulus could figure out what it meant. "You like star gazing?" James whispered. Regulus was silent for a few minutes. He turned back to the sky. He listened the the rushing of trees and James' breathing.
"Yeah, they're a lot harder to see in London," Regulus whispered. Regulus wasn't sure if he had imagined it or not, but it felt like James scooted closer to him.
"Yeah, they're always bright here." James' voice was carried off into the night. Regulus looked back at James. He admired James' features in the moonlight. It felt like the darkness was some safety net, so Regulus didn't force himself to look away from James. "You seem to like Mary," James says after a while. James looked at the trees instead of the stars.
"She's beautiful, yeah, don't get me wrong, but I'm not into her. Don't worry James, I won't steal her from you if that's what you're asking," Regulus laughed slightly. He watched as James clenched his jaw slightly, and he quickly looked away. Maybe he hit a nerve. Regulus frowned slightly.
"She really is beautiful," James whispered after a while. His voice had an edge of something. Regulus felt his heart clench. He nodded to himself. He doesn't know what he expected.
"Sorry, it was a joke. I didn't mean to pinch a nerve," Regulus' voice was small. He had to grip the railing to stop his hands from shaking. Making James mad hurt more than it did when he got his parents mad.
"No, no, it's not that. Just thinking, not about Mary," James assured. Regulus had an urge to get off the railing, suddenly aware of just how far above the ground he is. He noticed James moving. Ge looked over and James was now leaning into his arms. James' body language read uncomfortable.
"I think I'll head in," Regulus whispered. He began getting off the railing. Before he enter the house again, James caught his wrist.
"I'm sorry. I think I made you uncomfortable. I didn't mean to. My mind kind of just roamed, and I don't know, kind of upset myself I guess," James whispered. He wasn't looking at Regulus. It was like he was ashamed of something. Regulus used his other hand to turn James' head to face him.
"I wasn't uncomfortable. It seemed like you needed to be alone." Regulus gave James a soft smile. They stood like that for a second second before James looked away. Regulus quickly dropped his hand, and James' hand left his wrist. "I'll see you in the morning, James," Regulus whispered. He felt bad as he walked away because James somehow looked even more confused.
Regulus had liked Remus when they had hung out a few days ago, but he was still nervous as he followed James back to his house. James had said that he would meet his other two friends today. He also said there was a chance that the girls would be there as well. Regulus' heart was pounding as he leaned the bike against the side of Remus' house. "Regulus, I think they'll really like you. Everyone has so far," James said as he lightly grabbed Regulus' hand. That made Regulus' heart do flips.
James lead Regulus to Remus' door. He stayed silent as James knocked. Regulus barely registered James' hand still connected to his.
He looked up to see Remus gesturing them both inside. "Calm down guys, James here!" Remus yelled as he followed them inside.
