The screen shuts off. Then silence. Modus doesn’t speak a single word for a while, instead he just stares in silence. Not uttering a single word.
Not long after, the room starts filling with some sort of gas coming from the vents. Modus notices this and tries to break his way out, the gas quickly filling his lungs and throat, preventing him from breathing. He struggles to breathe and looks over at Barlon one last time before passing out.
It’s a few hours before Modus and Barlon wake up again, when they do Modus is the first to sit up. He looks around, they’re in the same field they were before they were taken.
“What the…?” Modus says softly as he looks around. Barlon sitting up next.
“Isn’t this…?” Barlon says.
“Yea…” Modus replies, looking distraught, confused how they had ended back in the field.
Modus stands up and looks around.
“Doesn't…seem to be anyone here.” Modus says.
“Yea…” Barlon adds. “Like…no one's ever been here…”
“Were we dreaming?” Modus asks.
“I'm not sure…” Barlon replies. “Is there something we can check?”
“I mean…I don't feel any different.” Modus says, looking around his body. “Anything with you?”
“Lemma check.” Barlon says, starting to look around his body. “I'm not seeing anything…”
Suddenly, Barlon’s face slowly grows into a look of fear as he finds a black, moderate sized boil on his arm.
“Oh god!” He exclaims in disgust and fear.
“What!?” Modus says as he comes towards Barlon to check what happened. “Oh god!!”
“What is this!? Am I infected!?” Barlon asks frantically.
“This can't be it!” Modus replies. “The infection's first symptoms are purple lesions, not black boils! Plus, how would you have gotten infected? There's no infected for seemingly miles!”
“Right but…then how the hell did this get here?” Barlon asks.
“It…had to be that giant bastard that kidnapped us!” Modus notes. “That's the only possible explanation!”
“How about we forget what caused this and figure out a way to get rid of it!” Barlon exclaims. “We have no idea what this thing is, what it could cause, or what it could lead to!”
“Alright, you're right.” Modus says. “But how? We have no tools of any kind that could help us find out what the damn thing even is!”
“Well then we'll find some!” Barlon says. “We just gotta…find a way back to that…place we were at…”
Barlon looks around the empty field.
“How exactly did we get there anyways?”Barlon asks confusingly.
“I have no idea.” Modus replies. “But we're finding our way back one way or another.”
Modus pulls Barlon up and starts to walk, Barlon follows behind.
