After about an hour of walking Modus and Barlon still find themselves in an empty field, in the middle of nowhere. They don't even see any type of tree or wildlife. Just endless gras and the occasional flower of sorts.

“Jesus…it's completely barren and empty here.” Barlon notes, still looking around trying to find something, anything.

“Yea…it doesn’t seem like anything has been here for decades, doesn’t even seem like infected even bother to be here.” Modus notes back.

“I’d doubt if infected had even been here at all. It's very clean here.” Barlon says.

“Yes…” Modus adds. “Too clean at that.”

“What do you mean?” Barlon asks, looking at Modus.

“Have you ever seen anywhere in the city look anywhere near this clean?” Modus notes.

“No but…this isn't a city, just…grass. It’s kinda hard for it to not be clean.” Barlon adds.

“You can think that.” Modus says. “I think there’s something here that keeps it so clean, maybe something that scares the infected.”

“That's impossible.” Barlon notes. “Nothing can kill an infected besides themselves.”

“But…but what if?” Modus starts.
.
“Dude, it’s just a very clean place.” Barlon interrupts.

“Fine, but I’m still keeping my theory.” Modus says, looking away.

“You can do that, but I’m telling you man, there’s absolutely nothing out he-!” Barlon says, stopping and going completely silent, having a bit of a worried look on his face.

“What happened?” Modus asks him, looking at him confused.

“I stepped on something…” Barlon replies. “Something soft.”

“Probably just some grass bubble.” Modus says, crouching down to check what it was Barlon stepped on.

What he sees is a torn piece from some sort of creature. Modus jumps back.

“GAH!” Modus shouts. Barlon jumps back after him.

“What was i-ughh!” Barlon looks down at what it was, he looks at it in disgust. “The hell is that thing?”

Modus picks it up to examine it, Barlon looks at him with extreme disgust.

“Why are you picking it up!?” Barlon shouts at him, backing away.

“It could be infected, look how rotten it looks, and it's obviously from something that was killed recently.” Modus notes.

“Jesus man, you're gro-.” Barlon says before something extremely fast flies right past his face.

“What the fuck was that?” Barlok asks, stunned as he looks down and sees some time of projectile, looking like it's burning hot.

“You missed him.” A person says on a post, looking at Modus and Barlon through some binoculars. “Try again while they haven't noticed us.”

The person next to him nods, then raises a rifle of some kind.
