Modus and Barlon rest inside of an old deli, getting what sleep they can after the incident that had occured. Barlon was having a harder time sleeping so he decided to try and find something edible inside of the deli. Of course, all the food was rotten, so he decided to just deal with it and go back to sleep, hoping he’ll get something. He climbed over to his sleeping bag and climbed inside.
For hours he lays, eyes wide open, impossible to fall asleep. He looks over at Modus who has managed to fall asleep. Although he doesn't look too good either. He's muttering and turning, seeming to be having a nightmare.
Barlon sighs and shuts his eyes one last time, this time finally managing to fall asleep. He manages to get about 3 hours of sleep.
After the difficult sleep Barlon wakes up to Modus missing. He climbs out of his bag and tries to find Modus.
“Modus…?” He calls out.
“Barlon. I found food.”
*Modus walks out of a dark room holding a backpack.*
“What?” Barlon asks.
“Non perishable food. Peanuts, peanut butter, beans. Food.” Modus replies.
“Oh, sweet.” Barlon exclaims. “I've been starving!”
Modus places the bag on the table and opens it up. He grabs the cans of food out and puts them on the table in order. In total there are 4 cans of food.
“Okay. So two things of peanut butter, one of peanuts and one of beans. How much can we make do of this?” Modus says.
“A week maybe? Not even?” Barlon says. “We could maybe stretch it longer depending on how we ration.”
“Maybe we could find more in that time?” Modus notes.
“Doubt it.”
“Be optimistic for once.”
“Shut up. We should pack up and leave.”
Barlon goes back to the bags and begins to pack his away.
“Yea, you're right.” Modus replies.
Modus goes and packs his away too. They then begin to pack as much as much stuff as they can into their bags. They leave the deli and return to their walk along the street.
They don't find anything interesting, just rubble, rebar and the occasional dead infected.
“God.” Barlon says. “It's like there was a Goddamn war here.”
“It's…sad…” Modus says, looking at a corpse.
“Hey…” Barlon says, pointing to something. “Is that a skull?”
Modus looks at what Barlon is pointing at, a large skull lying on the street. It's about 3 times the height of a normal human. The skull is almost completely stripped of all muscle and flesh.
Barlon walks up to the skull.
“What the hell was this thing?” He asks.
