Budding Affection

❀❁❀••••

We glided our way through the meadow that was beautifully basking in the sun. And just like that, winter came to an end as it yielded to spring. Spring is beautiful, I couldn’t help but smile. There was always something about nature that made me feel relaxed. I had never seen the meadow be so vibrant after the harsh gray season. The warmth of the sun is complemented and accompanied by the cool wind.

I looked at her, she was smiling brightly like this place before me. She twirled around, her movements filled with joy and her expression radiating excitement. I asked her, “Do you have any flowers you like?” she gazed over to where I was standing, giggled, and let herself fall back toward the grass and the dandelions. “I love forget-me-nots.” Her voice sounded like soft melodies to me.

“Ew, why’d you like that?”

“Can you blame me? I think they’re cute! Besides, look at their colors, it’s calming and pleasing.” She closed her eyes, enjoying the gentle breeze. She grinned, “How ‘bout you?”

I sat beside her serene figure. I gazed at her; when I didn’t answer, she looked at me expectantly. I took a deep breath, “you know I’m not interested in stuff like that.” I whispered, the scent of the fresh grass and soil filled my senses. I could feel her trying to urge me to continue. “And forget-me-nots are weeds. You’re very much lame for choosing that.”

She raised her brows, “wow,” she rolled her eyes and scooted towards me. She laid her head on my left shoulder, “You look like you had a lot of fun insulting me.” I could feel her warm breath, but I shouldn’t ponder too much about this.

“I did. It sounded like it’s from those cringey angst fanfictions you love to talk about.” Not that I don’t read those things, but she doesn’t need to know about that.

“Mhm, does that mean you refer to these flowers as weeds as well?” she couldn’t contain her laughter after saying that. It is quite funny since I could’ve called them wildflowers. Especially, when I told her earlier to see the flowers with me. Now it felt like I was twisting my own words.

Fits of giggles escaped my lips. I’d be lying if I said I don’t feel an ache somewhere in my heart. I know my love will only continue to grow for her. I also know she will never look at me the same way I look at her.

I sometimes wish you would; because you are my only ray of hope.

My only reason for enduring life.

Is it selfish of me to want you to feel the same thing for me?

Spring is forever beautiful, but you are undyingly ethereal.
