You turned away from your disappearing home to spare yourself any further heartache. Any second longer and tears would have over flooded your eyes. Lukas sighed deeply, mimicking your actions shortly after. Taking your hand in his again, he walked up to one of the crew members and conversed with him, once again in a tongue you couldn't understand. Hopefully, throughout the entirety of the trip, you'd be able to pick up at least a little bit of the language so you wouldn't be completely in the dark.
The man speaking looked to be one of the captain's brothers. His light blonde hair was shaggy and parted down the middle, and he shared the same hue of green eyes and bushy brows that his brothers all had. Lukas seemed to be asking something to which the blonde man gave a brief reply, and proceeded to lead you both down into the deck below.
There was a short hallway that had 3 doors on each side. You were led to the first, and once the door was open it was revealed to be your cabin. Lukas continued to converse with the other blonde man while you proceeded to examine the cabin's interior.
Its decor was certainly quite a few steps down from what you were used to, fitted with the most basic essentials and not a care was given to decorate, but it was manageable. Any further along in your pregnancy and it might have been uncomfortable for the both of you due to the small space, but it was enough to get you threw duration of the trip.
You walked over to the bed, which would barely fit the both of you, and sat down staring at the floor while trying to calm your racing thoughts. You still couldn't believe you were doing this. Were things so bad that you had to run away from your problems? Was there really no other choice?
'No, there is no other way. There's no point in trying to figure things out. It would be disastrous if we stayed. We can only hope this decision won't end tragically as well.
'But what if it does? What happens then? What are I, Lukas, and our future child supposed to do if we can't support ourselves? What happens when there is no longer a roof over our heads-- how are we going to find a roof in the first place? Lukas said he had some money on him, but how much? Was it going to be enough? Did he think this whole thing out, or was it a spur of the moment choice?'
Your thoughts raced rampantly, making you all the more anxious and close to breaking down completely. It was only so long before you couldn't hold back the tears anymore.
You were so lost in thought that you lost sight of your surroundings. You hadn't even noticed that the other man had left, or that Lukas was trying to get your attention.
"Stop thinking about it (Name)," Lukas took a seat beside you on the bed and took one of your hands into his, gently rolling his thumb over your knuckles. "You'll make yourself sick if you keep dwelling on it."
You lay your head on his shoulder while shifting slightly closer to his side. It always felt right the way your body could fit with his. You turn your hand over to interlock your fingers with his and shut your eyes, trying to keep the tears back. "You're right," you sighed. "It's just so hard to do though."
He laid his head on top of yours and squeezed your hand. "I know love," he whispered into your hair, "but we'll get through this. You'll see, it's only a matter of time before we're looking back at all this and laughing at the whole thing.
"We'll tell this story over and over again, so much so that our child will roll his or her eyes and repeat it word for word themselves. They'll have heard it thousands of times that they'd know it by heart, and dread knowing that they'll have to hear it a thousand times more."
You couldn't stop the smile that formed on your lips, nor did you want to. How is it that only seconds ago you were a shaken mess on the verge of a breakdown, and now, after only a few words from Lukas, your tears seemed to disappear. All those worries that kept in stacking just seemed to melt away for the time being. "How do you do that Lukas?"
"Do what, (Name)?"
"How do you look into the future with a positive mind, even though the present is so bleak?" Your eyes remained shut and you snuggled closer into his arms that slowly wrapped around your form. "How is it you can make me smile when I'm so broken?"
Although you couldn't see it, a smile once again covered his lips. His eyes slid shut, basking in the warmth shared between your bodies. "It's easy to see a bright future when you're in it with me."
Not a word was said thereafter, and after the day's events, you were exhausted. You fell asleep not long after. Lukas laid the both of you down while still keeping you in his arms.
He watched as your face would wince and scrunch up every so often. Even your dreams fell victim to your worries and anxieties.
He brushed a few strands of (h/c) hair from your face before giving you a soft peck on your forehead.
"I promise," he whispered, "everything will work out. I can't say how because I don't know how, but you, me and our baby will make it. You just have to trust in us. Trust in me..."
As if you heard his words, your face became calm. You even smiled ever so slightly.
Lukas admired the sight of you for just a moment longer before letting the gentle rocking of the ship take him away as well. Today certainly was a strain on the both of you, but who could say tomorrow wouldn't be better.

Sorry, again this took forever. I don't like this chapter very much and had to rewrite it a couple times before settling. Honestly, this chapter gave me huge writer's block & after a while, I just had to scrap it all and start over.
I still have a general idea of where I want this story to go, but since it's been a while I kind of think certain things should change. I dunno, we shall see.
Quick question though! What do you all want your child to be? Boy or Girl?
