I woke to the heavy sound of rain beating down on the roof. My room was dark as the rain out the window acted as a drenching curtain.
I sat up drowsily, pushing my hair out of my face. I sighed, today Aunt Hazel was forcing me to go into town to go 'shopping'.
I hated the thought of being surrounded by dozens of people, not being able to move freely, honestly I would rather my chances with 'vampired-up' Jay.
I dressed up in the usual, and tied, once again, the green bandana in my blond curls. I walked down to the kitchen to find Aunt Hazel talking with Elliot about the day.
I sat down at the table, looking at the array of food for today.
Bella poured me some juice as always, and Jay walked in, cool and collected, like nothing happened. He gave me the same polite smile he always does and walked out of sight. I bent around to see where he had gone, but Bella scolded me.
"We musn't turn around at the table miss, we musn't!" She scolded, I sat back around normally. Aunt Hazel wore a fancy pink wig today, with a purple and silver frilly dress that trailed behind her a bit.
I got up, and wiped my mouth with a napkin after I had eaten. I still wasn't quite used to the new house yet, but I was getting there.
We set off for the town in a horse drawn carriage. It took quite an effort to get Aunt Hazel in, but we all managed to fit. Aunt Hazel, Bella, Jay and I were all squished into the carriage.
When we arrived at the town, many people were walking around, carrying hand baskets filled with fresh fruits and veg.
I looked around at the large markets and saw many stalls had been set up at the edges, leaving a wide walking space in the middle.
We walked for a while, Bella and Jay in tow as Aunt Hazel looked at some jewellery and insisted I buy some green earrings.
I refused, as my ears weren't eve pierced and I would never let them put a hole in my ears. Just the mere thought made me nauseous.
Instead, I walked over to a stall with many flowers, just like the ones at the gardens. Jay followed me over, he was obviously told to keep a close eye on me from Aunt Hazel.
I smelled the flowers, they smelled lovely. The florist, who was a an old man, gave me a smile.
"You want flowers, yes?" He insisted in a thick French accent. I hesitantly nodded and he handed me a few roses, they were lovely. Jay's eyes burned with jealousy.
"Those flowers are fake" He spat.
"Not fake, not fake!" The French florist insisted. I was stunned.
"They are see" he took a rose from me and split it in half, and just as he said, they were fake. The stem of the 'rose' was plastic! Jay gave the man a smug look. The florist looked about ready to lean over and strangle him.
"I'm too smart for you" Jay challenged. A small crowd had formed.
"No, no. You stupid boy!" The florist yelled angrily, his face turning red. Jay didn't move a muscle. The man leaned over and grabbed Jay, crushing his throat with his large hands. Jay didn't move, his face showed no sign of pain
I gasped, surely Jay's neck would have snapped!
But he showed no sign of pain, or distress.
"I'm not the stupid one here" He said coolly. Jay then lurched his body forward, wrapping his legs around the mans arm and violently rolled, sending the man to the ground, crying. Jay bent down and glared at the man.
"Don't mess with my Masters, and I" The man looked horrified.
"W-what are you?!" The man's bottom lip quivered.
"A loyal butler" Jay then led Elvira away from the crowd, as if nothing had happened.
"That...that was incredible!" She marvelled.
"It was nothing" He didn't say it like he was full of himself, nor did he sound as if he was trying to impress her. But she was already awestruck.
When we had finished shopping, we returned home to a quiet house. I walked around, hoping to stumble upon Clara, or even Chimera, but I was in no such luck.
I fell backwards on my bed. I sighed.
There was nothing to do. The sun started to set in the sky and let off a yellow warm glow that dimly lit my room.
I heard a knock at the door.
"Come in" Jay walked in, a tray of tea in his hands.
"I thought I'd bring you tea, Miss" he set the tray down on my bedside table, I sat up.
"You didn't have to"
"I was quite fine with it" He poured the teaming tea into a delicate cup and handed it to me.
"Careful, It's hot" He warned. I sipped it.
"It's good"
"Thank you"
"You don't have to be so formal with me Jay" He pursed his lips at the idea.
"..I don't know.." He sounded unsure.
"You really don’t" I assured him.
"Okay.." He sat down next to me, tray still in his hands.
"So, how are you?" he looked quite surprized.
"How am I?"
"Yes, you"
"Oh. I'm fine thanks, and you?"
"I'm alright"
'That's good"
"I suppose it is"
We sat there for what seemed like hours, just talking and laughing, careful not to make much more than a whisper so then out conversation couldn't be interrupted.
