Chapter 10

The next day Lily goes to Rafe's garage because she has to talk to him about the mission.

"Rafe?" Lily says, entering the garage.

"Oh, hey." He says giving her a hug.

"I have good news for you." Lily says, sitting down on the couch.

"Talk!" Rafe says as his eyes now have a glow in them.

Lily smiles lightly. "You're in with us in this mission."

"Really?" Rafe says, excitedly.

"Yeah!" Lily says.

Rafe stands up and hugs Lily. "Yeah, that's it. There's my chance to prove myself to you and to the others."

"I'm sure you will." Lily says hugging him back.

Lily and Rafe quickly after the talk started looking for clues and maps that might lead them to the gold.

The whole day passes by.

Rafe and Lily, tired, exhilarated from their discoveries, sit by a makeshift table in the dimly lit garage.

The glow of a lantern casts shadows, creating an intimate atmosphere.

"Lily, we make a great team. I never thought I'd enjoy a mission this much." Rafe says smiling.

"You're not so bad yourself, Rafe. Maybe redemption suits you." Lily teases Rafe.

Rafe, charmed, takes Lily's hand. "You know, I've been thinking about the future. What if we find the gold? What's next for us?"

Lily, caught off guard, meets Rafe's gaze. "I suppose that depends on what we uncover. But I never imagined I'd enjoy chasing treasure with you."

"There's something about you, Lily. You're not just clever and brave; you're beautiful, too." Rafe says whispering to Lily.

Lily blushes, grateful for the unexpected compliment. "Are you trying to sweet talk me, Rafe?"

"Maybe a little, but it's all true. You deserve to hear it." Rafe smirks at Lily.

As Rafe continues showering Lily with affection, Sarah, unnoticed by them, quietly enters the garage.

Intrigued, she overhears their conversation.

"Well, what about you, Rafe? What do you want for the future?"

"I want a fresh start. I want us to have a future beyond this treasure hunt, whatever that may be." Rafe says looking deeply into Lily's eyes.

Unbeknownst to Lily, Sarah, standing by the door, hears the vulnerability in Rafe's words.

Lily, sensing an opportunity, seizes the moment.

"I never thought I'd say this, but I might be falling for Rafe." Lily whispers to Sarah.

Sarah, surprised, tries to conceal her reaction as she processes Lily's confession.

"Did I just hear that right?" Rafe says shockingly.

Lily freezes, realizing Rafe has overheard.

The room falls silent, the weight of the unspoken feelings lingering in the air.

Rafe, still holding Lily's hand, looks at her with a mix of surprise and anticipation. "You're falling for me?"

Lily, caught off guard, stumbles over her words. "Well, I... I didn't mean to say that out loud."

"No need to be shy, Lily. I think I might be falling for you too."

The tension dissipates as they share a genuine, heartfelt moment.
