Charlotte's P.O.V.
I was shoved out of the car once we stopped moving. "Get with the other people. Talk, do whatever until the announcements," Leon ordered, getting back in the car and driving off. I looked around to see there were not as much people here as I thought there were. There were only about one hundred people here. I walked around, looking to see if there was someone I knew from my school. There was nobody I knew, all there were was complete strangers that got in the same mess as me. Well, technically I didn't get myself stuck in this mess, but the people who thought of this stupid idea got all of us here.
I sighed, looking around helplessly. This is stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I gave up on trying to find someone I know, so I sat down on the grass and hummed a tune that was stuck in my head.
"Whatchya humming, girly?" A boy around my age asked, sitting down beside me.
"Just a song," I answered, looking up at him. Oh my cheesesticks. This person is smoking hot! He had messy black hair that hung in his light blue eyes, full lips, and a chiseled jawline. Wow, just wow. Man, I never met someone this good-looking. My eyes trailed down to his chest. He had on a blue shirt that hugged his chest, which showed off his abs. My eyes went back up to his face and amusement sparkled in his eyes.
"Are you done staring yet?" He asked with a smirk.
"I don't know. Am I?" I raised an eyebrow, my lips twitching as I tried to suppress a smile.
He just stared at me, making me feel self conscious. Does my hair look good? Probably not, considering how the stupid blonde locks are always so curly and un-tamable.
"I love your eyes. They're a pretty brown color," he complimented, leaning forward to get a better look at them.
"Onto compliments now, stranger?" I leaned back. He's way too close.
"My name isn't stranger," he blurted out, making me laugh.
"Of course not. Why would your parents name you stranger?" I laughed.
"My name is Nicholas," he said, his cheeks tinting pink.
"Well, Nicholas, my name is Charlotte. Can I call you Nick?" Nick nodded.
"Everyone! Give me your attention!" A voice yelled, and I looked up to see a person standing with a microphone in his hand. Everybody immediately went silent. "I'm Christopher, and this is Leon," the man said, pointing to Leon. I scowled at them, knowing they won't see me. "We want to tell you all what's happening and-" Christopher got cut off by a person yelling.
"Why are you doing this?!"
"I'm not going to answer that. Anyways, back to what I was saying. Every month we are going to have a little contest." Christopher walked around the makeshift stage. "And the people who are the worst singers will be executed. Also, anyone who tries to run away and they get caught, or if they disrespect me and my team," Christopher paused. "They die."
Silence. Complete and utter silence. "Guards, let's do a demonstration." Christopher pointed at the person who cut him off in the middle of his speech. The guards went through the crowd, grabbing the man roughly by his arms. "This will teach you all a lesson," Christopher's happy voice filled the silent air, and then the guards stabbed the man in the stomach a few times before stabbing him in the heart. I looked away, suddenly feeling queasy at the sight of the crimson colored blood.
"That's cruel," Nick whispered so quietly that I almost missed what he said. I nodded, watching as the guards dragged the man's dead body away.
"You people will be transferred to a development that is heavily guarded. You will get rooms that you will share with someone, and we don't really care if you're roomed with the opposite gender, so don't be too shocked. Follow the guards onto the buses and you will be assigned rooms," Christopher said, and everyone started following the guards.
"I hope I don't get roomed with a creepy old dude," I whispered to Nick. He nodded, agreeing with me.
"I actually wouldn't mind if I was roomed with you," he replied, giving me a wink that made my cheeks go pink.
Once we were on one of the buses, the chatter made it hard to hear the guards that started yelling out people's names and room numbers."SILENCE!" A booming voice got everyone to stop talking. "Now let's continue. Lilly Priser and Krista Long, you're in room twenty-three. Nicholas McCurdy, you're with Charlotte Miller in room twenty-four. Alina...." The guard continued to list off people's names and room numbers.
"I swear I've heard of the last name Priser," I muttered, looking at Nick. "I can't believe we're roommates!" I whispered to Nick excitedly.
"I hope we still have this luck for as long as this nonsense is going on."
