Megumi Fushiguro stood frozen in the dimly lit hallway , clutching the letter in his trembling hands. He had received numerous anonymous letters over the past few weeks, filled with poetic verses and heartfelt confessions. In his heart, he had hoped it was someone he admired, someone he could reciprocate feelings for.But as he unfolded the latest letter, his heart sank. The words were familiar, the handwriting unmistakable. It was Yuji Itadori.
Disappointment flooded Megumi as he read Itadori's words professing his admiration. The thought of Itadori, his energetic and somewhat reckless classmate, being the one behind these letters made Megumi's stomach churn. He couldn't fathom being romantically involved with someone so... him.
"Hey, Megumi! What's up?" Itadori's voice echoed down the hallway, interrupting Megumi's thoughts.
Megumi quickly folded the letter and tucked it into his pocket, trying to compose himself. "Nothing, Itadori. Just... lost in thought."
Itadori bounded up to him, a wide grin on his face. "Hey, I wanted to ask you something. Do you maybe wanna grab lunch together? I found this great ramen place nearby!"
Megumi forced a smile, his mind still reeling from the revelation of his secret admirer's identity. "I'm sorry, Itadori. I have some errands to run. Maybe next time."
Itadori's smile faltered for a moment before he shrugged. "Sure thing, Megumi! Just let me know when you're free."
As Itadori walked away, Megumi couldn't shake off the feeling of disappointment and discomfort. He had hoped for someone more... mature, more refined. Someone who understood him on a deeper level. The thought of being pursued by Itadori made him feel uneasy.
Alone in the hallway, Megumi leaned against the wall, trying to process his conflicting emotions. He couldn't deny the pang of hurt that Itadori's revelation brought, but at the same time, he couldn't bring himself to reciprocate those feelings.
With a heavy sigh, Megumi realized that sometimes, the reality of a situation could never match the fantasy he had imagined. And as much as it pained him, he knew he would have to find a way to let Itadori down gently, without crushing his friend's feelings.
But just as Megumi turned to leave, Itadori returned, a determined look on his face. "Hey, Megumi. Can we talk for a moment?"
Megumi tensed, his heart sinking further. He knew this conversation was inevitable.
"Sure, Itadori. What is it?" Megumi replied, trying to keep his tone neutral.
Itadori hesitated for a moment before speaking. "I couldn't help but notice that you seemed a bit off earlier. Is everything okay?"
Megumi's frustration bubbled to the surface, his disappointment turning into anger. "No, Itadori, everything is not okay! In fact, nothing is okay! I can't believe you're the one behind those letters!"
Itadori's expression shifted from concern to confusion. "Letters? What are you talking about, Megumi?"
"Don't play dumb, Itadori! I know it was you! Those letters, those ridiculous confessions... I can't believe you would stoop so low!" Megumi's voice rose with each word, his pent-up frustration boiling over.
Itadori's eyes widened in shock. "Wait, Megumi, I swear I have no idea what you're talking about! I didn't send you any letters!"
But Megumi wasn't listening. His anger had consumed him, clouding his judgment. "Just stay away from me, Itadori! I want nothing to do with you or your pathetic attempts at... whatever this is!"
With those harsh words, Megumi turned on his heel and stormed off, leaving Itadori standing alone in the hallway, hurt and bewildered.
As Megumi disappeared around the corner, he couldn't shake off the guilt gnawing at his conscience. Deep down, he knew he had been too harsh, too quick to judge. But in that moment, all he could feel was the sting of betrayal and the bitter taste of disillusionment.
