We arrived at the cave of the Oracle, in a small clearing at the side of the forest. The current Oracle of Delphi was a clear sighted mortal named Olivia. She had shoulder length blonde hair, dyed purple at the ends, and clear blue eyes that bore into you. She was rather pretty and very kind. Overall, she was a very good Oracle, at least according to Rachel.
Apollo greeted his Oracle with forced cheer.
"Hello, Olivia. How's it going?"
Olivia smiled briefly. "Glad you made it."
She didn't answer the question, or greet any of us. She must've known we were coming.
Apollo's smile slipped instantly. "You know?"
"I do."
She turned to us, and took us all in.
"I've been expecting you." She murmured, her eyes flickering green.
The older half-blood exchanged looks. I grew nervous.
"Speak your question, seeker. And the Oracle of Delphi shall answer." Her voice sounded tripled, like three of her speaking at once.
Percy stepped forward. "How do we save Ares and Athena?"
Olivia's eyes turned emerald green and green smoke came from her mouth. When she spoke, she still sounded tripled.
"Daughter of the sea, hurry out west
She is the key for success in this quest
The fate of Olympus upon her must lie
Least Wisdom and War together shall die
God of Riches and Death by her restored
Against the Anomaly, she shall earn her sword."
Olivia's eyes returned to blue and rolled to the back of her head. She crumbled backward, into Apollo's waiting arms.
Almost instantly, she came to again, eyes fluttering.
"What'd I say?" She murmured.
"Not a lot of good." Zeus rumbled.
Everyone's eyes were on me. I gulped.
"Daughter of the sea." Kronos mused. "Poseidon, why is it always your children?"
My father sighed, looking aged a few years. "I wish I knew."
Hestia gently patted his shoulder.
"Annie Chain, daughter of Poseidon, it appears we must issue you a quest." Chiron looked sympathetically at me.
I smiled weakly. "Great."
Nothing good ever came from quests. Not for demigods.
"Daughter of the sea, hurry out west." Hera murmured. "Ares and Athena are being held in the west."
"Probably somewhere in California, by New Rome. Where we currently have no soldiers but an entire city of retired demigods and legacies." Dionysus added.
"Why in Hades would the Anomaly hold them near New Rome when we could deploy the retired members of the legion?" Zeus asked, ignoring Nico, Bianca, and Hazel's annoyed mutterings about using their father's name as a curse word.
"Because he doesn't fear them." Bellona said, shaking her head and allowing her dark hair to fall from its tight bun.
"Annabella Chain, I authorize a quest." Zeus declared, ending the conversation as he stared at me. "You may choose two companions to join you on this quest."
