The very next morning Miranda sat up against the tree. Ben was still asleep laying against her stomach.
She rubbed his head contently until he stirred. "Good morning," he greeted.
"Good morning,"
"I want you to take my picture," Ben said.
"What?"
"If I die I want to have my last picture out here."
"Ben,"
"Miranda I am serious,"
Miranda huffed and grabbed her camera out of her bag.
"How do I look?"Rolling her eyes, "Handsome, a really cool person," she responded causing them to laugh heartily.
Miranda took Ben's picture as he smiled in one and made a silly face in another.
"Do me next, how do I look?" She asked brushing her hair down and fixing her hat.
"Like a real snow angel,"
Miranda smiled and threw snow at him.
Ben took her pictures before putting the camera down and throwing snow at her.
"Uh," she gasped bawling snow up in her hand and hitting him in the head.
She moved to stand and backed up from him as Ben threw another snowball at her.
She laughed loudly before falling in the snow and making a snow angel. Ben took her picture and captured the snow angel she made.
Holding hands they walked around throwing a stick and watching as the dog retrieved it.
"You know if we weren't fighting for our lives a cabin in the middle of the woods would be a romantic getaway."
"What about this would be romantic?"
"A cabin with the one you love. A nice fireplace, good food, books, games, quality time. A hot tub and naked in bed."
"That actually does sound nice. But after we get through this. I don't want to see snow for years. I want to just lay on the beach all day." Miranda stated.
"I don't blame you."
3 days passed and Ben swore the more that time went on the more he forgot about his fiance. He liked Miranda and he knew that was wrong but hell he still wasn't for sure if he was going to die out here. He liked the fact that if he was to die it would have been with a person he liked.
He couldn't determine that if things had been different would he have liked Miranda. He had a strong feeling that he would have liked her even if they weren't in survival.
He still would have found her absolutely beautiful, funny, and smart as hell. She was a nerd, so they discussed comics, books, and movies. They even discussed innovative medicine, going to Mars, and random cool facts. He found all of her surgery stories fascinating. Despite the circumstances, he felt free with her. He told her about his life, growing up, and all the dumb mistakes he made along the way.
"Where are we even going?" Miranda asked suddenly.
"We are alive. That's all I can answer."
"We have been walking for 3 days now. Can we rest for a bit?"
"Yeah, let me help you put your leg up."
Ben sat beside her and grabbed a handful of hardened snow. "You want an ice-cold drink?"
"Yeah and make sure there's plenty of ice with it," she teased eating the snow out of his hand.
"I'm getting used to the cold though," she informed.
