"Twenty drachmas.""You're on."
ADELEINE ENJOYED target practice with the Ares cabin. They were the children of the god of war, and couldn't so much as hold their bow in the right position, or have the correct grip, always resulting with none of the targets struck.Summer had come easily, especially after the fiasco inculding Mrs. Dodds. A few highlights of the second semester included Adeleine convincing Percy that he was a psychopath, and her managing to convince the counselors that he suffered from hallucinations too. She also barely passed her algebra test (ironically without help from the Hermes kids), and she said goodbye to her roommate, Malaya Yu, with the hopes of never seeing the Philippine girl again.
She didn't know how other Camp Half-Blood demigods managed to go to regular schooling, when the knowledge of wise harpies were just as valuable.
"Hold it higher Clarisse!" Adeleine chided at the head councilor of Cabin 5, Clarisse LaRue. Clarisse was currently trying to aim at the bullseye, but she had missed the past 5 shots and had almost injured a nymph tending to the strawberry fields.
"Maybe if you were helping instead of looking," Lee Fletcher yelled overhead. Lee Fletcher was the counselor of Cabin 7, Apollo, and had been one of the very few people that let Adeleine tag along with their lessons.
Adeleine looked toward Lee, who had his hands busy with Ellis Wakefield, a ten year old who's mother had suddenly dropped him off a few days ago, the minute summer started.
After a long pregnant pause, filled only with Clarisse's cursing, Adeleine said, "I feel like you already have enough help."
Lee glared at her and she felt like the sun was also glaring at her. Children of Apollo were creepy. "Shouldn't you be with the Hermes cabin in lava climbing?"
Adeleine could hear the screams from the unclaimed and Hermes children all the way from the archery field. The minute she got to Cabin 11, only 2 days ago, her own little sanctuary was filled to the brim. Unclaimed children set up cots and she noticed the amount of unclaimed kids in there. It was overwhelming, and she had only stayed in there to sleep (which wasn't very nice seeing as the new campers were snorers).
She slightly adjusted her sunglasses and huffed out, "If you don't want my help then just say so."
"I don't want your help," Lee dragged out dramatically.
Adeleine put her hand over her heart and feigned shock, "I could be your sister! Is that any way to talk to me?"
He snorted, "Nah, dad wouldn't have someone as annoying as you."
Clarisse glared at the duo. "If you both don't stop talking to each other and helping us, I swear to the gods—"
The camp bell rang loudly overhead, signaling the start of dinner, and Lee and Adeleine shared a look of gratitude.
