017. Disappointments
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
They say that spring brings hope and a new beginning. A fresh start.
But that was not the case for Klaus. He stood on his knees, dead bodies all around him, drained of blood. His white shirt drenched with blood that didn't belong to him.
He dropped the body of the one he just drained on blood to quench his thirst. Wiping his lip, he looks up hearing footsteps. His eyes widen at the sight on his siblings. He felt like he just only regained the control of himself after a long time of being in an abyss.
The stench of blood in the air which was heavy enough to make Finn look at Klaus with disgust. "Just what are you doing?"
Klaus slowly scans his surroundings with a confused expression. The realization of this being his doing sank in. With each moment, his chest tightened seeing the gazes that he had nightmares about. Gazes filled with disappointment.
"All this time," Elijah began, "I was hoping that you would stop by now. That you would control your urges. But I was wrong, brother."
Klaus clenched his fists tightly with his head hanging down, like a child getting scolded.
"You don't want to stop and make yourself more of a human..." Finn clenched his jaw, "You are a monster."
Klaus glared up at him, standing up. "I? A monster?" Klaus laughs mockingly at his brothers. "I think you all have forgotten what we truly are!" His voice loudly echoes in the large area. "And do not forget that it is because of this monster that you all stand before me with accusations!"
Finn shakes his head at Klaus before leaving him.
"What? You are already leaving?!" He smiles wide, "Won't you call me words far worst than a monster?" He asks Finn, who's back was the only thing he could see.
Elijah does that same, followed by Kol and Rebekah. Klaus' arrogance and ego disappointed them more than his foolish, monster-like acts.
He lets out a shaky exhale after they all leave. His looks down, blinking with tears in his eyes. He wanted to tell them that it wasn't his fault and that he didn't do it. He desperately wanted to say those words, but who would believe him? His actions contradicted his words.
Klaus gasped for air, waking up from his nightmare. He felt like he was suffocating as if someone was choking him by the neck. He did his best to gasp harder for air. But he got nothing but a few drops of tears falling down from his eyes.
He stood up, stumbling out of his tent and into Lilith's tent. "Li-" He could barely call her out as he watched her from the back with his arm reaching out for her, grabbing the wooden pole for support.
She was too engrossed in cooking to hear his weak voice.
After failing to get her attention, he couldn't take it anymore and fell down to the floor with a loud thud.
Lilith snapped her head towards the sound and looked at him wide eyed. "Klaus!" She rushed to him, grabbing him into her arms. "What happened to you?" Her alarmed eyes searched his pale face and tired red eyes for a response. "Did you have a nightmare again?"
He nodded his head, unable to utter a word.
She pulled him up into a hug, calming herself down before trying to help him. "You know, when I first came to this Earth, the first thing I saw was a wolf. He was all alone. He had no pack. He roamed around with the only aim of survival... It was like that for him until he met someone who became his best friend. That best friend had a pack and everything that he always wanted. Being with his friend and the pack made him feel like he finally found a home."
Lilith caressed his dirty blonde locks, hearing his breathing stabilize. "Are you feeling better?"
"What... Happened next?"
"His new friends found out why he was kicked out of his pack. It was because he was killed his pack. His new friends soon because wary of him. It pained him. It was more hurtful than all the years he spent alone."
"How did he fix it?"
Lilith took a deep breath. "Well, he didn't give up trying to get his friends back. He explained why he did whatever he did. A justification goes a long way."
"Why did he kill his pack?"
"He killed them because they killed his father, who was a coyote..." They pulled away from the hug, slowly. She looked up into his eyes, "There isn't any line that we wouldn't cross for family, Klaus. Like if a day ever day where you were to harm my father or my family, I would have annihilated you and everything you ever loved."
"You can't kill me." Klaus chuckled weakly.
"It's not a matter of can't. Rather a matter of wouldn't... There is a difference."
"Then why wouldn't you kill me?"
"Because you are my family too now." She says, looking into his eyes. "You hold a place in my heart. I can't kill that part of me."
He stares at her stunned. "You know people can take that the wrong way."
She frowns in confusion, "Wrong way, how?"
"They would take that as a confession of love and kiss you."
"Confession of love? Kiss?" Her face contorted further with confusion.
"Yes." He spoke softly, inching his lips towards hers, "They would come close like this and meet your lip with theirs."
Seeing his up so close, she didn't know where else to look and there was feeling of her body stiffening by the closeness. Was it anticipation or shock? She could decipher. But she didn't hate this closeness. Rather, it was quite exciting.
