"Naruto.." Inoichi's voice was gentle, yet stern. He needed to make sure that Naruto understood.
"If you choose to drop the charges right now against Sai, you are basically admitting guilt for lying like they are claiming. The DA will charge you and you can end up serving time yourself."
"B-but" Naruto was almost shaking. Yet again, his world was crashing down around him and he couldn't do anything but stand and watch it come down.
"Their main defense is that you are making all of this up and you assaulted yourself" Inoichi frowned. "If you drop this now, no one will ever believe a word that comes out of your mouth. If you were to get convicted and this happen while you are incarcerated, sorry to be blunt, but you're screwed, Naruto."
The reality of the lawyer's words were sinking in with every tear that streamed down Naruto's face. He was screwed no matter which direction he went. He drops the charges and lands in prison himself. He throws the case to keep Sasuke safe, knowing neither of them will ever be safe regardless. He takes the stand and he has to relive every disgusting detail that he swore to himself he would take to the grave without telling a soul.
Naruto wiped his tears with the back of his hand. "I need to use the restroom."
Sasuke frowned as he watched Naruto rush out of the court room with his hand over his mouth. How he could continue to vomit when he was hardly eating, was concerning to the Uchiha. Part of him felt bad for putting Naruto through this. He had never seen the blonde more distraught, even when he had first found out about the abuse. It absolutely crushed his heart that he couldn't help Naruto.
"I don't know if he is going to make it through this, Sasuke" Inoichi mumbled as Sasuke stood before him.
"What are the chances?" Sasuke hesitated to ask. Even though Inoichi had good repour with the judge, he was starting to believe that wasn't enough. If Danzo was able to get him to raise his voice in court.. he shivered at what he might do to Naruto.
"It could go either way. I am not super confident at this point if you want me to be honest. Naruto hasn't even taken the stand and he is already breaking" The long haired lawyer let out a small sigh before turning back to his paperwork. "Go see if you can coax him out, please"
Sasuke nodded and headed out of the court room, to the bathroom.
"Naruto?" he called out softly.
Silence.
"Naruto?" Sasuke called out a little louder, his heart rate picking up.
Still silence.
"Fuck" Sasuke started to panic as he realized that Naruto wasn't in there.
Walking out of the bathroom and back into the court room, he strode toward Inoichi with a stern look on his face. He didn't want to let on that Naruto had disappeared, but he was having trouble keeping it together.
"I need you to stall if I am not back in time" Sasuke spoke very lowly.
"Wh-"
"I will find him. Just stall them. You get paid for shit like this" Sasuke almost barked out, concern evident in his voice.
Inoichi let out a sigh and threw his hand up, dismissing the Uchiha. He chose not to take it personally, as he understood the worry the raven was now going through. His biggest fear this entire time, had been Naruto disappearing. There had been many nights that Sasuke would keep his door open and wake up at the slightest noise in the house, on the off chance Naruto decided to leave.
