As soon as Anya's mom left, Shubman leaned in, eager to reconnect their lips, but Anya gently placed her palm in front of his lips, halting his advance. "Not now, raat ko," she whispered with a playful smile, before stealing a quick peck on his lips and darting away, her laughter trailing behind her.
Throughout the evening, Shubman attempted to steal moments with Anya, but she skillfully eluded him, teasing and playfully running away each time he tried to pull her into his embrace. As the clock struck 5 in the evening, Anya found herself nestled with her head on Dadi's lap. Dadi, in turn, gently caressed Anya's hair while reminiscing about Shubman and Shahneel's childhood stories, even delighting in recounting Shubman's embarrassing moments with a twinkle in her eye.
As Dadi continued to recount embarrassing stories from Shubman's past, he squirmed uncomfortably, pleading to Anya to intervene and stop the nostalgic onslaught.
"Ek vaari," Dadi began with a mischievous grin, "Shubman sochda si ki oh bahut wadia jadugar hai. Oh saare parivaar de samagam vich sab nu prabhavit karna chahunda si, tablecloth naal ek jadoo dikha ke. Par istey ke dishes gayab ho gaye, oh pura tablecloth te saare cheezein le ke zameen te gir gaye!" ( "Shubman thought he was quite the magician. He tried to impress everyone at the family gathering by attempting a disappearing act with a tablecloth. But instead of making the dishes vanish, he ended up pulling the entire tablecloth—and everything on it—crashing to the floor!")
Anya couldn't contain her laughter as she imagined the scene, while Shubman buried his face in his hands, his cheeks burning with embarrassment.
"Te fer ek vaari, school di natak vich," Dadi continued, undeterred by Shubman's protests. "Shubman nu mukhi bhoomika vich cast kita gaya si, par ik khaas scene vich, oh apne lines bhul gaya! Os ton vaddi gal, oh apni lines bhul jaan to baad, oh kuchh vicharaar naal samajhdaar taur te kujh anokha bakna shuru kar ditta, jis karke audience hass-hass ke laal ho gayi." ("And then there was the incident at the school play," Dadi continued, undeterred by Shubman's protests. "Shubman was cast as the lead role, but during a crucial scene, he forgot his lines completely! Instead of gracefully recovering, he improvised with some rather creative gibberish that left the audience in stitches." )
Shubman let out a groan of embarrassment, his face turning crimson as Anya doubled over with laughter, thoroughly enjoying every moment of his discomfort.
"Bass, Dadi, hor nahi," Shubman finally interjected, unable to endure any more humiliation. "Kujh hor gallan karo, kirpa karke." ( "Alright, Dadi, that's enough," Shubman finally interjected, unable to endure any more humiliation. "Let's talk about something else, please." )
Shubman's embarrassment melted away, replaced by a warm, dimpled smile as he observed Anya's contagious laughter. Her nose vibrated with amusement as she buried her face into Dadi's lap, overwhelmed with happiness. Glancing at his Dadi, Shubman felt a surge of joy as she leaned in and tenderly planted a kiss on Anya's forehead.
Not wanting to miss out on the cosy moment, Shubman decided to join the embrace. He gracefully rose from the floor and leapt into his Dadi's arms. Dadi, already hugging Anya, warmly welcomed him into the embrace.
"Rabji, agle janam vich Shubi te Anu nu ikathe kariye, kyunki is janam ne unhaanu bade zulm ditte ne," prayed Dadi, acknowledging the hardships they have faced. ("O Lord, in the next life, bring Shubi and Anu together because this life has been cruel to them,")
