CHAPTER 15.
"JEALOUSY, JEALOUSY"

3RD PERSON'S POV:

It's daytime. Outside the dorm building, students lay flowers at a memorial for Megan. Elena enters her dorm room to find Caroline rifling through the contents of a cardboard box.

"Megan's memorial outside is growing by the minute." Elena said and Caroline groans.

"Ugh, college kids are so dramatic. She was on campus for, like, one day. She couldn't have made that many friends." She said and then glanced back to what she was looking at. Natalie and Jason waking around, laughing and talking. She sighed annoyed.

"Caroline, she's dead. You can stop competing with her." Elena said and Caroline looked down.

"Sorry, I am in a mood."

"You talked to Tyler?" Elena asked but Caroline shook her head as she glanced over at Jason and Natalie who now were looking at Natalie's phone and laughing. "Is it about Nat and Jason?"

Caroline looked at her best friend and nodded her head. She glances back to two friends. "Look! They are laughing again. What are they laughing about? What is so funny? Or why am I only blonde who Jason would never date." Shs said and Elena giggled. "What is so funny?"

"You are overreacting, Caroline. They are just friends. Also, you said it yourself, Natalie was your and Jason's biggest shipper" Elena said and Caroline shook her head.

"Correction, it's Brina."

Elena looks down to hear a name and decided to change the subject. "How's the snooping going? Any explanation why our vervain-laced," she asks and looks back to check for eavesdroppers "vampire-slaughtered roommate had a picture of my dad on her phone?"

"No."

Elena suddenly remembers something, and hands a folder to Caroline. "Oh, um, I went by the hospital this morning - Megan's death certificate. It says she died of suicide. No mention of the gaping vampire-bites on her neck. So, whoever signed off on the cause of death was part of the cover-up, just like the Founders Council back home." She explained.

"Dr. Wesley Maxfield."

" A.K.A., our Applied Microbiology professor. I switched our classes around, so that we could-" Elena said and Caroline's eyes widen.

"Applied - what, what? Uh, Elena, we are supposed to be taking Intro to Communication. What happened to getting drunk and making bad decisions about boys? What happened to our fun freshman year at college? I am supposed to be a drama major!" Caroline exclaimed.

"You are not going to be an Anything major if we get exposed as vampires!" Elena said but she stops, realizing her voice had been rising. Both she and Caroline take a deep breath, and Elena smiles. "We are still gonna have our fun year, Caroline, but we have to protect ourselves. The way Damon kept his secret in Mystic Falls was because he infiltrated the Founders Council. So, bust out those alleged acting skills, and let's get on it, okay?"

Elena smiles at her, and finally Caroline relaxes and smiles back. Then again the Forbes girl looks at Jason and Natalie who are laughing again. The Salvatore boy caught her looking at him and sends her small smile as Caroline smiles back.

Damon, Victoria and Brina stand at the edge above the quarry with Sheriff Forbes. "Damon, I know I said I would help you find your brother, but I can't dredge this entire quarry. It's enormous." Liz said.

"I am aware of that. I mean, clearly that's why we wanted to dump Silas' body, here - because it's big and deep and no one would find him. Now, say I am Silas, and I wanna take over my doppelgänger's life. Why wouldn't I dump him in a place that's big and deep, where no one would find him?c Damon said.

"Damon, I already agreed to hold off on telling anyone about the Mayor's death until you figured this all out, but I can't devote those kinds of resources to finding one person who may or may not be down there." Liz said.

"But it's a place to start. And if Stefan's down there, that means he's been drowning over and over again all summer." Brina starts starts to she pauses.

"...while I have been happily playing house with Elena. Do I need to further elaborate the source of my urgency?" Damon finished.

"I will get some deputies on it."

"Thank you, Liz." Victoria and Brina said at the same time.

Liz walks away. Brina's phone starts ringing; she answers it.

"Please tell me you found her." Sabrina said as she puts her pheno on speaker. She and Damon sent Jeremy to find Kathrine.

The shots alternate between Damon, Victoria and Brina at the quarry and Jeremy, Matt and Katherine at Matt's pickup truck.

"I didn't...but Matt did." Jeremy answered as Damon and Sabrina shared a shocked look.

"Huh. How shockingly...useful." Damon said making Victoria chuckle.

"Those blue eyes...they made me soft. I should have ripped your head off when I had the chance." Katherine's voice was heard.

"Jason would agree to this" Sabrina whispered to Victoria who giggled.

'She was mid-cat-fight with some lady who maced her. We think Silas might have mind-controlled himself some new friends."

"How exactly did the Gilbert-Donovan brain trust put all that together?" Damon asked.

Victoria rolled her eyes as she takes phone away from Sabrina. "Never mind, it doesn't matter. Just hide her. If Silas wants her bad enough to sic the whole town on her, that means we want her more. Stay out of sight. You were the last person who Silas saw her with." She said and Damon glared at her taking phone away.

"Hey! It's my phone." Sabrina said taking her phone. She then looked at Victoria with saying. "We should get going. We needs to meet Jason in the college. Ellie and Scott are already in the college." She said and they started waking.
