A lot had happened, and Nneka couldn’t put her finger quite on it.
For a whole week, she kept thinking about each and every one of them and the fact that they could be the one.
It was weird.
Extremely weird, especially since her entire life, her whole existence, this never happened. There was no romance, not even a purser that she knew of. So having someone tell her that everything was planned for her to kinda experience a once-in-a-lifetime mistake, was funny.
It was the day of the official meetup. And all the girls were there, being Stella and Natalie.
Natalie waited flipping through one of Stella’s home decor magazines, while Nneka got dressed. And Stella was helping.
They were in Stella’s apartment, picking out clothes that might work for an official meetup.
“You need something to pop out, stand out in the crowd,” Stella said throwing her clothes on the bed.
“How much more standing out does she need? The girl has 4 men wrapped around her finger.” Natalie said.
Stella wagged her finger at her, “not yet.” She smiled.
Nneka tried to seem happy, but the whole thing again…was weird.
Did this mean she had to date them all? Be in a harem?
Or what exactly?
The only information she had was this was divine intervention.
And Stella had now found the perfect outfit.
“I got it!” Stella yelled. In her arms were a white turtleneck, navy blue jacket and regular blue jeans. Stella looked down at Nneka’s black and white sneakers, and smiled brightly, “this is the fit. It says relax, and not thinking too much.” “Geez, from you’re room no one would ever suspect that.” Nneka laughed.
Natalie put the magazine down and nodded approving the look.
The one thing Nneka couldn’t do was dress, and lucky she had them for help.
Now once they were all done, it was time to meet everyone else. So Natalie and Nneka waved and hugged Stella as they left for a better explanation of all of this.
Throughout the train ride there, Nneka’s palms were sweating, and it was autumn. The sheer pressure of meeting the one was enough to make some vomit on the side of the road. But she kept her cool all the way to that very apartment, to that very door where they all waited for their guest.
Natalie knocked on the door.
Elliot held the door open, smiling and excited. “Welcome, welcome, please come in.”
His apartment was super clean, probably because he had guests coming over. But his home seemed to fit him very much.
He held the door open, asking for their jackets, which they gave. And he put on the coat rack.
“Are we ready?” Kan said, and honestly, both Nneka and Natalie were surpised. “Should we start?”
Natalie grinned leaning into Nneka as she whispered, “Look who made it.”
It made her laugh a bit before entering the kitchen with beautiful pretty men all waiting for her.
“Yeah, how about a simple introduction,” Javi said.
Javi sat at the kitchen island, shaking up drinks. He poured the final two and placed them in front of the last two.
A glass of white wine and a sprint.
“White wine for me?” Natalie asked sitting down. “I’m liking you already.” Nneka sat next to her and grabbed the cold can of soda. She couldn’t help but think about the soda he gave her, white instead of orange, though she later erase those building thoughts.
She took a glance at Javi, who nodded and gave a quick smile. All as Kan watched closely.
Javi stood up straight and began pointing at each of them.“Kan 30 and you already know you’re Dentist.” They nodded.
“Elijah or Eli, you’ll have to ask him what he prefers. Anyway, he’s 32 and a Professional chef. He made some Fancy pizza chips.”
Elijah set up 2 plates of small pizza bites in front of them. “I hope you like it,” he said directly at Nneka.
She smiled nervously then mouthed a thank you.
“Alright,” Javi called their attention back to him. “So our host Elliot, 25 and a professional French volleyball player.”
Elliot hid his face shly.
“And myself, Javier, but please that’s my father. Call me Javi and I own the bar. Well other stuff too, but that’s for the future.”
“That’s very impressive,” Nneka said.
"Thank you, but this is all about you. Our esteemed guest, Nneka, 27 and researcher.” She nodded, looking over at Natalie who had poured herself another glass of white wine. She was enjoying the party favours.
Javi clapped his hands, and everyone turned back to him. “We’re all here for me to explain a very simple yet hard-to-believe undeniable fact.”
“And this undeniable fact…” Kan questioned.
“Time,” Javi answered.
“Time, " he repeated.
“Specifically timelines.” Javi started.
He opened his laptop and turned it to face them. On the screen was an animation of the infinity symbol.
“Like time travel?” Elijah asked.
Javi shook his head. “Not exactly. More like a glitch.” Javi pointed to a bunch of random spots on the screen and a red ‘X’ appeared on each place he marked.
“And all these ‘X’ are different versions of us. Versions of us in different timelines, worlds, and even universes, but simultaneously. And with one constant factor…you.” he turned to her.
Nneka raised a brow, “huh?”
“Essentially we’re you’re soulmates. And for some strange reason, we all ended up in the same world or timeline.”
Nneka nodded, holding back chuckles. “So in conclusion, I have to choose between the 4 of y’all to what…fall in love with?”
Javi agreed, “Yeah.”
“That’s stupid,” Kan interjected.
“Well, that’s how it works, unless you want to share.”
Natalie grinned wickedly, nudging Nneka. “I like the concept. 4 guys…1 girl.”
Nneka looked her up and down“I’m not having 4 husbands.”
“Why not? You get a personal chef, a health inspector, a fitness trainer and a financial advisor. That covers all aspects of the necessities if you ask me.”
Nneka rolled her eyes, as Javi threw his hand up in the air. “Any objections, going once, twice…”
Nneka pulled his hand down. “We’re not sharing me.” She leaned into Natalie repeating herself. “We’re not sharing me.” Natalie shrugged her shoulder, grabbing a pizza bite. She threw it in her mouth and grinned, “Sad…free food suddenly disappearing.”
“Wait…“Elijah held a hand up. “Saying it’s all true, we haven’t fallen in love yet. So why would we share?” “We’re not sharing me,” Nneka said once again. “Let’s eliminate that from everyone’s mind. I’m not doing a reverse harem. I’m not even Poly!” Natalie rubbed her chin, “that is true.”
Suddenly Elliot stood up. “Let’s just take a moment, a breather. I mean this is kinda making sense, but let’s just—”
“Why are you all entertaining this?” Kan interrupted. “I mean you want me, us to believe that our love life is predetermined.”
“Sounds like fun if you ask me.” Natalie poured herself some more wine. “You have 4 guys proving their underlying love for 1 person. Seems legit to me.” She ate a pizza bite.
“That’s because you’re her friend.”
“And I’m wanting the best for her, so your point is…”
“I agree, it sounds…weird,” Elijah said.
But it seemed not everyone agreed.
“The whole idea of clarifying this is weird, but why not?” Natalia asked. “Why not entertain it and see where it goes.”
“This is coming from the sane person?” Nneka questioned.
Natalie was the cool level headed person of the group. Having her agree with whatever was being presented to them struck her interest she won’t lie, but also was very confusing. It wasn’t like her normal self.
She started questioning if Javi knew about this and wanted her here. Without her, that very first meeting would have ended there, and this whole introduction course would have been very different. Plus the outcome…she wasn’t entirely sure how it would be.
“To ask the sane person, what do you think we should do?” Kan crossed his arms against his chest. “Assuming each and every one of us is drawn to her.” “Assuming?” Natalie laughed. She knew, they all knew.
This soulmate thing, they might all try to deny it, but there was a force pulling them all towards her. That much Natalie saw, and the idea came.
“A date.” she nodded in thought. “Each one of you shows your best self and we’ll go from there.”
