The Demon Princess

I have a dream, I'm here to tell
About a wonderful fantastic new hotel

Yes, it's one of a kind, right here in Hell,
Catering to a specific clientele!

Hell's ruby-tinted air gleamed glinting purple on my clothes as I floated lazily on the sluggish air currents, my sharp eyes glancing briefly to the V's bright neon tower amidst the muted reds and blacks of Pentagram City.

It wasn't dread, exactly, but it was the feeling of annoyance and impatience that one got when they needed to do something against their will.

I felt like a child sulking after a tantrum. One that I lost.

Come on, Y/n. Stop procrastinating and get your sleep-deprived ass down there.

I heaved a huge sigh before dropping out of the wind currents, spinning in free-fall before landing in front of the neon tower in a swoop of glowing magic. The light curled and lilted through the air like wisps of dandelion before vanishing into shadowy mist.

My footsteps clicked satisfyingly on the concrete floors as I walked to the entrance, my face fixed in a lofty expression.

"I'm here to see Vox." I said before the guards at the door could say anything. They recognized me immediately and quickly bowed, pushing open the doors to reveal the glittering welcome hall.

Being the Valkyrie had its perks, I suppose. No need to prove that you mean no harm because everyone is already scared shitless of you.

Unless you're a fellow overlord.

"Back so soon, my dear Valkyrie?" An energetic voice said enthusiastically before its owner revealed herself.

Velvette strutted round the corner of the hall, followed by a couple of employees who were laden with clothes.

"Velvette." I said stiffly, inclining my head to her.

The overlord laughed before sending away her employees.

"Oh come now, Y/n - no need to be so formal! Loosen up a little, relax those graceful limbs of yours." She didn't stop pestering me until I cracked a tiny smile. "There we go. So, why're you back already?"

"You can ask your colleague that question." I answered. "He and I have some unfinished business to discuss."

"Vox's in the common room upstairs, last I saw him. Oh, and watch out for the pissbaby. Val's having a raging fit - you might have to avoid his office."

"What's he angry about?" I enquired curiously.

"Eh, some shit about one of his employees ditching to go to that weird rehab hotel on the edge of the Pride Ring. Someone called Angel or something." Velvette faked a yawn before turning to leave.
"But for fuck's sake, shit like this happens all the time. Just avoid the raging mothman and you'll be fine. Have fun, dear Valkyrie."

Velvette smiled toothily before bossily calling out to some workers and hurrying out of sight.

I kept my slightly smiling facade up but once Velvette clacked noisily out of the main entrance of the tower, a tired scowl replaced the casual smile. Why was keeping up appearances so hard? I partially despised the V's due to their mind-control tricks and constant pestering, but to maintain a good partnership with them was to maintain your social status and your reputation.
