Creampaw was heading towards the nursery to check on Stormkit. She looked like she had mostly recovered, and she was walking a little on her spraint paw.
"Is your paw feeling better?" Creampaw asked.
"It's feeling a lot better!" Stormkit bounced.
"Great. That means you can be an apprentice at the same time as your siblings! From what I've heard, your apprentice ceremony is today," Creampaw told her, happiness in her voice.
"It is today! I wonder who my mentor will be..." Stormkit was now lost in thought. Creampaw padded out of the den.
"Brightstripe! No! I can groom myself!" Creampaw let out a faint mrrow of laughter as she heard Snakekit's protests. On her way to the medicine den, Beetlenose stopped her.
"Dewtail has been complainin' about ticks again," Beetlenose sighed. "And none of the other apprentices are able to treat her."
"I'll go get mouse-bile," Creampaw huffed.
"Thank you," Beetlenose dipped his head and started back towards the elder's den.
What has Dewtail been doing to get so many ticks? Creampaw thought, sighing. She finally reached the medicine den, where there was already mouse-bile-soaked moss ready. She took moss on a stick and brought it to the elder's den.
"Ah, Creampaw's here now," Creampaw heard Beetlenose tell Dewtail. "Your ticks will be gone in no time."
"It took her long enough," Dewtail grumbled.
"Erm, hi, Dewtail," Creampaw's mew was muffled by the stick she was holding.
"I think one of my tick bites are infected," Dewtail flicked her tail in annoyance.
"I'll check," Creampaw sighed. Creampaw checked through the grumpy elder's fur and found a couple ticks that gave infected bites, and several more that didn't. Creampaw got rid of the ticks and went to the medicine den to get marigold. She brought it back to the elder's den then chewed it into a poultice. Creampaw rubbed the poultice on the infected bites, and Dewtail sighed in relief when Creampaw was finished.
"That feels so much better," Dewtail murmured.
"Aren't you going to thank Creampaw?" Beetlenose looked at Dewtail through slitted eyes, and Dewtail glared back.
"I don't have to listen to a tom," Dewtail lifted her chin in arrogance, her tail swishing.
"Let all cats old enough to swim gather beneath Tallstump!" Creampaw was relieved when she heard Adderstar's yowl. She quickly brought her supplies back to the medicine den and raced back out into the clearing. It was not long before all of the clan had gathered in the clearing.
"I've called you together for one of the most important moments in the life of a clan, four kits have reached their sixth moon and are ready to become apprentices," Adderstar looked down at his kits and blinked slowly.
"Stormkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. Step forward. Rainingfur, you will be Stormkit's mentor. You have been trained well by Fawnstep and you are ready for an apprentice. Stormkit, from now on, until you receive your Warrior name, you will be known as Stormpaw," Rainingfur and Stormpaw touched noses.
"Brownkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. Step forward. Oliveheart, you will be Brownkit's mentor. You have been trained well by Braveclaw and you are ready for another apprentice. Brownkit, from now on, until you receive your Warrior name, you will be known as Brownpaw," Oliveheart and Brownpaw touched noses.
