Red Coffin

Chapter 10

     I walked through the graveled path, kicking rocks every now and then. Sighing, I looked up at Victoria and Zane who where both following beside me. "Why's that boy here?" I asked rather suddenly. "Amir," he corrected. "Why's Amir here, it was quite sudden, don't ya reckon?" I looked around as I was talking and spotted Adira and Damien further out yonder. "Oh look, there's Adira!" Victoria blurted out. We made our way closer to them until we were face to face. "Oh, look who it is," Adira snickered. I couldn't help but look up at Damien, our eyes met as soon as I did causing me to flinch. I was so embarrassed around him. Breaking the contact, I looked down to his neck where I noticed bruised hickeys scattered everywhere. I guess I was staring for to long because he suddenly pulled his shirt up and looked away with a red face. Guess we're even now.

     "Well, Amir came over suddenly, was there a reason?" As she asked this I looked over to Zane expecting him to answer the question we both had. "Yes actually, he said he had some business to do, but let's not worry about that." I looked down as he explained this, I still didn't feel that good about Amir. Did Ambrogio like him? Was he going to throw me out now that he got his ex back?
My thoughts were interrupted by Zane grabbing me by the waist and pushing me forward along with Victoria. "Sorry but we must get going, we have a few errands to run," Zane told Adira. The three of us began our journey, down out of the castles line. I paused for a moment. "Where are we going?" I asked.

     "Well first we are going to get you some clothes, then I need to run this letter to the office and after that we can grab a meal since we will already be in town," he explained to me. "Okay, sounds good," I replied right after.

     We walked for around 10 minutes before we finally made our way deeper into the town. Vampires were everywhere which made me frightened, but for some reason when they all looked at us they turned away and continued on. I could only guess it was because they knew who Zane was, I mean he is the kings best Butler, he has to be popular. My thoughts were put at a stop when we reached our first destination. I felt Victoria grab my right hand, leading me into the small clothing shop. Zane followed close beside, standing on my left side. I watched as he turned to the shop owner and exchanged looks with him. They both smiled. I looked down below the shop owner to see a small human girl sitting on the floor beside the him. She didn't look abused or mistreated at all, she was also sitting on a small cushion. I smiled at her when we made eye contact, she remained still with a blank face.

     "Okay baby, let me start looking," Victoria said, looking through the isles of clothing. I stood still as she picked out several options and held them all up against me. Once she was satisfied she grabbed onto my hand and pulled me into the small room used to try on clothes. "I'll be right here if you all need me," Zane said as he stood outside the door. Victoria began handing me clothes and helped me try them on.

     Once all the clothes were tried on she began picking them all up and laying them across her arm one by one. I kept one of the pairs of pants on and walked out the small space back into the shop. I went beside Zane as Victoria payed for the clothes and put them all in bags. Zane waved goodbye and we began making our way out of the store and back outside. The air smelt so fresh. I lifted my face and let the cool breeze go through my hair. "This way," Zane said, grabbing my hand along with Victoria's in his other. "You didn't have to buy me clothes, I will make sure to pay you back."

     "Oh, no need sweetie. Ambrogio actually gave us coins to do what we needed today," she explained to me. "Oh, alright then. That was nice of him," I replied back, now thinking of him again. "Sure," she smiled. We continued walking on the sidewalk, passing many people and shops on the way. "Okay, wait here. I'll be right back." Zane made his way into a building which I was guessing was the post office. He came right back out not even a minute later, grabbing our hands again and turning around. We made our way into this bigger cafe. When we walked in I noticed a sign saying no pets or mixed breeds. I tugged on Zane's arm but he kept walking. "Hey no h- oh," one of the employees began talking but stopped once she looked at us. "Sorry about that, what can I get for you?" She forced a smile. I looked around as they ordered, many vampires were staring at us but turned away once I looked at them. "What would you like?" Victoria asked. "Oh- anything's fine."

     Ten minutes passed and the food was done. Zane went to grab it and brought it back to the table where we began eating. I listened as they talked about work subjects and things like that. Once they were done we headed back outside and walked back to the castle.

     As we made our way through the gates and up the pathway I noticed Ambrogio standing at the castle door. He watched as we grew closer and closer to him until we were face to face. I smiled but that was cut off quickly when he suddenly jerked me away and picked me up. "What are you-"

     "Shh, just be a good boy and behave."
