(yet another "rant" chapter ig but I'm trying to do more of a critique than anything, and this is all just my opinion so pls do whatever you want I'm just sharing my thoughts <3)
one huge reason I can't really get into himeno x readers, and why I don't particularly write a lot, is that one of Himeno's biggest character traits is how much she loves Aki.
I mean it's just a story, you don't HAVE to stick to canon, plus there's always AU's, but idk. What Aki and Himeno have is something you can't replicate with a plain old reader. Plus, some readers are just hella boring to me, especially the guy ones sorry. And there's like ZERO girl or gn!readers so I just can't get into it!!
Like, this isn't with EVERY male!reader (especially since i'v written a LOT of male!reader x insert female character here for csm on my own time) but I can't help but feel that Himeno is objectified in practically all of them. They seem less about being into Himeno as a person and more about wanting to score with her because she has huge tits. That treatment can go for a LOT of the csm cast, but Himeno being underrated means a generous amount of fan-content is JUST that, which irritates me.
There is one x reader I'm reading right now where I'm presuming reader takes the place of Aki as Himeno's 6th buddy, which is an interesting approach I wish more fics would take. Or if you're going to make an x reader, consider the tension that could arise from an unrequited crush. (lol basically what I do everytime for the angst and drama xD)
At the very least I wish there would be more buildup in these types of fics between Himeno and Reader, instead of her just casually forgetting her love for Aki, why not have her grapple with her feelings on more than one person? So many interesting things, yet all the fandom seems to want to do is make her "seduce" reader into cheating on his pregnant wife... (yes that is the plot of a damn x reader I read once, yet another example of Himeno's body being used instead of her actual character)
