Gryffindor Common Room,
Hogwarts
Hermione stepped through the painting of the Fat Lady and found the Gryffindor common room in utter pandemonium. She wanted to find Harry and Ron and talk to them immediately but when she saw the crowd, and smelled the smoke she knew it would be pointless. Knowing Harry and Ron, they would be far gone by now.
They had been planning their night at the bonfire since the first year. It was a rite of passage at Hogwarts, an unwritten rule that students throw one each year. The pressure for it to be better than the last was inevitable, rumours and gossip would undoubtedly flow for weeks after tonight.
Students were talking, laughing and drinking. Smoke of all different colours floated above groups of friends and danced against the paintings lining the walls. Music played over the crowd, and first year students all sat and talked as they got to know each other.
Hermione frowned, looking for the Prefects and surprised this party hadn't been snuffed out. Percy in particular was worse for rules than she was.
Harry nodded at her, he was leaning against the tall windows with the moon hanging brightly in the sky. He was deep in conversation with Fred and George, both of whom were smoking a purple substance that she chose not to acknowledge.
Lavender Brown's light blonde curly locks are twisted into little buns like cat ears on the top of her head. The rest of her hair was curled into perfect ringlets that cascaded down her back. Her bare back, enchantments had drawn intricate designs like golden tattoos all over her upper back and shoulders. She was wearing a black bralette that barely covered anything, a black ribbon around her neck with an abundance of gold chains hanging down between her breasts. She had her midriff showing, high-waisted black pants with gold runes that glittered and sparkled down the pant legs. Her pants were flared and she had platform boots on underneath the pants. The intricate designs on her pants swirled and twisted like enchanted golden snakes, for a brief moment Hermione was mesmerised by how beautiful she looked.
Lavender's dark skin shimmered in the light, her makeup made her look older and her hair was so beautifully curled it made Hermione immediately feel self-conscious of the messy bird's nest on her head. Suddenly Hermione felt like she didn't fit in, she was so burdened by what happened at the Quidditch World Cup that she felt like she was disappearing in quick sand. Everyone was moving on and growing up and here she was worrying about Draco Malfoy glaring at her and Lavender Brown's perfect curls.
Who have you become? Her mind teased.
She wondered if Lavender had enchanted her clothes to keep warm, there was no way she would be able to walk out to the forest half-naked. She would freeze to death.
Hermione wasn't the only one staring at her lacy top and all her skin, Ron was standing with one arm leaning on the fireplace and the other holding a cup that was spilling out all over his shoes. His jaw agape, Hermione knew he would be following Lavender like a lost puppy all night. She smirked to herself, enjoying a brief moment of feeling normal before she remembered what was at stake and looked around the room for Harry.
There were students everywhere, she was surprised Percy and the other Prefects had allowed everyone to be out of bed so late. That was until she saw Percy blowing rings of orange smoke from a very fat cigarette with Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan. Neville was laughing as they watched Percy ramble on and raise his hands to invisible creatures. Neville had his feet kicked up on a wooden table and a green drink in hand.
Hermione rolled her eyes.
Parvati Patil had enchanted her hair to a white-grey colour, it was straight down her back and glittered like moonstone when she moved. She was wearing a very lowcut gold jumpsuit with a black belt cinched around the waist. The jumpsuit had very short shorts and she wore black Mary Jane platform shoes. Hermione wondered when they all grew up so much, that she started to feel anxious that she wouldn't have anything good enough to wear.
