Mrs. Larsor passed out worksheets and said we could work with a partner. She went back to her desk and picked up her thick novel and started reading. Most people loved it when the teacher let us do our in class work with partners it meant you could talk to your friend about whatever while pretending to do the worksheet. For me it meant sitting next to my best friend and listening to Mitch and Cole compliment her and flirt with her.
She says it annoys her how they're so obsessed with her but it's pretty obvious she likes the attention. As much as I love Deanna I hate having classes with her because we never get to talk because whatever boy is around has to be talking and flirting with her. I mean the boys are'nt super mean to me theyre actually really nice but in a fake way like because they know Deanna won't like them if they're mean to me. I would rather them hate me then be fake nice.
I finish the worksheet by myself pretty fast and start scrolling through my phone. No new messages what a shocker. Mitch is telling Deanna how he gets jealous when she talks to other guys. It makes me want to throw up. Mitch isn't even dating her.
The bell rings and I wait for Deanna by the door like always. "Hey Kat!" she says walking beside me. "Hows the whole Mitch and Cole thing going?" I ask. "It's so hard because they both like me and they're best friends and they always fight over me and...." Deanna says going on about her hard life.
Dan passes us in the hall. He also has confessed his love for Deanna saying she's so pretty and nice and caring and sexy and on and on. Hey Deanna, hey Kat." He says. The funny thing is when I pass him and I'm by myself he just gives me a dirty look.
We go to Deanna's locker like usual. I always get my stuff the period before so we dont have to waste time. She shoves her stuff into her sparkly pink bag and slams the locker shut. We hurry to the front of the school where Deannas older brother Josh is waiting in his black jeep.
Josh is a senior and he absolutely hates Deanna and me. He doesn't say anything the whole ride home. The car is silent and the tention is so thick you could cut it with a knife. He pulls up my drive way and I get out. "Thanks" I say. He doesn't respond he just starts backing out. I wave to Deanna.
I go through the garage and open up the door with my key. To my surprise my mom is home. "I thought you were going to be in Columbia the next couple of days." I say, putting my bag on the counter. "No darling we rescheduled for next week." She says.
I open the pantry looking for my oreos aka (comfort food) but the pantry doesn't have oreos it doesn't have any cookies at all or chips or anything good, instead there is 100 calorie rice cakes and other disgusting foods. "Mom what is wrong with the pantry it looks like the Whole Foods store."
"Oh yes Katrina we need to have a talk." She says ignoring my question. I think about any possible thing I could have done in the last month that would get me in trouble. I couldn't think of anything besides that one B- on my history quiz. "Look mom I studied for it and I tried my hardest." I say while sitting across from her at the table. She looks up from her phone at me confussed. "What?" She asks. That obviously isn't what she needs to talk about so I just smile and say, "Nevermind" "Your father and I were talking and well... summer is coming up soon and we just can't take you sitting inside wearing sweatshirts and feeling bad for yourself another summer." she says. I raise an eyebrow at her, "What's your point?" I ask. "We are putting a plan in place so you can be in the best possible shape by summer." Mom says smiling. This would explain the pantry dilemma. "Plan?" I ask. "We aranged for a trainer to come during week days after school and I bought only nutritious foods to keep a balenced diet." she says waiting for me to probably say thank you or at least look excited but all I can think about is how I can convince her oreos are nutritious. "Mom you don't have to do this." I say instead. "You start with the trainer on Monday." She says getting up and kissing my forehead.
When I got home from school Monday I ran straight to my room dodging mom. Coral Nike shoes with a matching coral Lulu Lemmon tank and shorts were laid out on my couch. I grabbed a pillow and screamed into it. I put on the clothes and added my own black head band, it blended in with my black hair. I put my long hair into a high pony tail and laced up my shoes. I felt fat in this small little workout outfit.
I walked down stairs into the kitchen. There was a plait of asorted cut up fruits and a water bottle that surprise matched my outfit. A tall musculy girl in work out clothes was chatting with mom by the couches. Chances were she was here to kick my ass into shape. I didn't walk over to them yet. I just ate fruit pretending that it tasted good. "Katrina darling I have someone I want to introduce you to." My mom said from the other room. I grabbed the water bottle and walked toward my mom and the muscular lady. "Hello I'm Taylor it's nice to finally meet you." I wish I could say the same. "You too." I said forcing a smile.
I spent the next three months in the workout room in my basement with Taylor the trainer from hell. I was dripping in sweat after each hour and a half work outs and on the weekends when she wasn't here I still had to do 40 squats a day and 45 minutes on the tredmill. I hadn't tasted my precious oreos since then either. I was forced to drink spinache protein shakes and veggetables and lean meats. But, by the second month I stopped craving junk food well except oreos but still, and people started noticing a difference.
