A family

Imagine this,

You grew up with a broken home,
Not that every day was broken,
But you learned to throw a fake smile,
While using a comb,
To brush the knots away.
The times that really felt broken,
You never really cared to stay.
Your father was never a father,
Your mother was there but not to an extent that you needed.

Your siblings looked up to you,
They relied on you for everything,
You found a job,
You been buying the groceries,
While trying to find their rides to school,
But carrying all the weight to this broken family can be very scary.

You always told your friends,
"Once I get married, I would want my kids to grow up with a family,"
A family you never had.
A family that wasn't so broken,
The ideal of a family was a dream to you,
It didn't have to be perfect,
But it definitely wasn't going to be broken.
You didn't want your kids to be the adult at that age,
You wanted them to have a childhood,
You wanted them to experience life on their own with a little guidance.
That was your goal.
