Ch2 : Lute POV

I had been to Adam's place countless times. Hell, I even stayed the night there from time to time. So it was no surprise to me when he asked me to come over. I was his closest friend... His only friend, really. And I couldn't be more honored to call him my best friend. I appreciated all his quirks and energy that made Adam... Well, Adam. We were almost complete opposites in terms of personality, and a small part of me thought that him and I completed each other.

I arrived at Adam's door and barged straight in, not even bothering waiting for him. I was well aware that his careless ass never locked the door. I spent no time making myself at home, kicking back on his pure white couch and finding the TV remote. I clicked through the channels, searching for something of interest. Adam walked in and closed the door behind him. He gave me a side eye, and I could see the playful smile creeping across his lips. "Holy hell Lute, slow down, at least let me get changed and pour us some drinks," he laughed as he strode across his apartment and disappeared into his room. Finally settling on a show that I could stand, I rose from the couch and wandered to the kitchen... Which was far bigger than my own, despite the fact that Adam had no clue how to cook and pretty much ate out every single day. It was a wonder the guy wasn't 300lbs. I opened his liquor cabinet and did a quick scan. The alcohol in Heaven was massively toned down compared to Earth or Hell, focusing more on a good taste than high alcohol content. I chose the pale orange bottle of Scotch that was supposedly peach flavored and then produced two cups (the only pieces of glassware Adam owned) from his cabinet and filled them with ice.

I was halfway through pouring the second glass of Scotch when Adam emerged from his room. My heart did at least three summersaults as I turned to face him. He stood before me in all his shirtless glory, every muscle glowing under the bright light of his halo. It was very rare that I saw him in pants, let alone shirtless, and currently I was seeing a bit of both. He had a gold sash tied around the waistline of his bright white pants. "I know, pretty fuckin' jacked huh?" Adam sung, flexing arrogantly. He was ridiculously attractive and he knew it. As if I was going to fuel his ego by telling him what he already knew. "Hmmm, I think you could use a few more trips to the gym, you're looking a little sloppy as of late," I joked, handing him the drink I had poured for him and heading for the couch. Adam made a pouty face as he sat beside me, taking my own drink and setting it on the side table along with his. He took a sip of mine for good measure, and to be a jackass. I glared at him and he gave me a big, innocent eyed look in return. The corners of my mouth pulled up in a small smile as I chucked the remote at him. The small object bounced off his forehead before flying into the crack in the couch. "You little cunt!" Adam barked, diving towards the place the remote had disappeared. Unfortunately I happened to have the same idea, and we both ended up smacking our heads into each other rather than the couch. "Damn ittttt," Adam wailed, rolling off the couch onto the floor. I spared no time snatching the remote up and dangling it smuggly above his head. "Missing something?" I asked, batting my eyes at him. "Oooh no you don't," Adam said, jumping to his feet and bulldozing me backwards onto the couch. I kept a firm grip on the remote as he struggled to take it from me.

After about ten minutes of us tussling on the couch like cats and dogs, in a to-the-death battle over the remote, Adam finally got the upperhand. Sitting on my chest, he proudly yanked the remote out of my reach. "Who's the looser now?" He taunted, changing the channel a few times to rub it in my face. I growled and, as I went to get up, I was suddenly all too aware of the position Adam and I had gotten ourselves into. My face heated up instantly and I looked up at him. His cheeks were also far too colored for normal Adam behavior; apparently he was also aware of the situation. But he didn't move. Surprised, I held eye contact with him. He leaned down towards me a bit and my breath caught in my throat for a moment. 'What the hell is happening,' I thought to myself. "Swee-" Adam's voice was cut off by an obnoxiously loud alarm blaring over the TV. I swiveled my head to see that Adam has accidentally switched the channel to Heaven's news. And it seemed to be playing some kind of... Warning? Above me, I heard Adam click up the volume.

The face of a pretty, young angel appeared on the screen. She looked panicked. "Citizens of Heaven, I am here in this moment to relay a very important broadcast. This is a warning. Heaven is being attacked. I repeat, sinners from down under have breached our gates and are wreaking havic on our streets. Please, lock your doors and windows, stay in your homes, and do not try to fight back. The exorcist army will be being contacted to deal with the issue. Stay calm, I repeat, stay ca-" The young girl's broadcast was cut short as a sword pierced through her throat. She let out a strangled cry, before the blood-splattered screen went black. Adam looked down at me, horrified. I just about mirrored his expression. We both lept to our feet and rushed to the door. I could feel the adrenaline pulsing through me as Adam banged on doors to the exorcist's apartments one by one, in a desperate attempt to get his army in line. I followed, shouting orders to aid Adam as much as I could. 'How is this possible,' I thought as I raced through the halls.
