Chapter 9 - The Family Plan

Abigail came out to the living room with her hair wrapped in a towel to tell Michael that she threw Kayden's clothes in the dryer only to lower her voice as she noticed Kayden was asleep. She smiled at Michael and said she would be right back only to return with a baby blanket that she laid over Kayden.

"You will make a great mother one day" Michael said to his wife.

"Yea, someday soon I hope" sitting down beside Michael.

They both didn't speak until they heard the dryer alarm go off. Which by that time they were both having a hard time finding something to watch so Michael turned the tv to a station that just showed a fireplace.

Michael pointed out it was nearly 10 o'clock and should they keep Kayden here or bring him home. Abigail pointed out that they should let him sleep here, plus pointing out both had just taken showers and it was still raining.

Michael brought up that Kayden has looked like he has not gotten a full night's sleep in a while, and he would agree they should let him rest pointing out that he could sleep the night in the nursey they have set up for Brandon his nephew. Abagail says that the crib will work because it will be safe for someone his size to sleep in, and they can turn the baby monitor on and watch him through the camera in the room for when he wakes up.

Michael takes a look down at Kayden and brings up how irresponsible Kayden has been from not getting a good night's sleep, being in a situation where he might get kicked out of his place, not paying attention to his surrounding which resulted in him getting hurt at work, and not doing something as simple as checking the weather and dressing appropriately.

"You know he doesn't just sit at his desk, I will often find him sitting on his desk and even sometimes walking around on top of it with little concern if he were to fall and get hurt" Michael said having to stop and lower his voice as to not wake Kayden.

Abagail was holding back laughter she Michael getting flustered as she sarcastically pointed out that they should just adopt Kayden that way they could just keep him safe, and it wouldn't be too much different than taking care of toddler.

Michael got serious for a moment and brought up that they can legally adopt Kayden, because he didn't have any parents growing up and it wouldn't be any different then stepparents adopting their stepchildren as adults. Pointing out that because he is a dwarf that if they as Amazon were to adopt him that Kayden would lose all legal protection he has as an adult because of the "Safeguarding Dwarf's Defense Act". Allowing them to determine the safest way to take care of him and how to discipline him, Kayden would even need their legal signature just to work and if a company didn't have that they would be violating child labor laws.

Abigail moved to the edge of her seat and turn to Michael looking him straight in the eye and said, "How long would it take?"

Michael thinking to himself for a minute saying "I could have the paperwork completed and signed tomorrow morning without even leaving the house, I just got to call in a favor to a judge. That would grant use temporary custody until we sign the paperwork in his chambers on Monday and make it official."

"Then let's do it I would love to have a little Brandon of my own" looking at Kayden smiling.

Michael looked at the time and with Abagail's help gently got off the sofa and walked to the nursery and laid Kayden to rest in his crib. Abagail grabbed a teddy bear to lay beside him before Michael put the baby blanket over him as they both quietly exited the nursery.

They stayed up to almost midnight talking about how they would handle their schedules and how they would explain the situation to Kayden why'll Michael wrote up the legal document to send to the judge in the morning. They talked about the rules that Kayden would be expected to follow and as they didn't agree on everything there was one thing, they both strongly agreed on was if Kayden had just one accident, they should just put him back into diapers for a while if not permanently considering Michael notice there were times that Kayden seemed to need to run to the bathroom at work. Besides they figured it would be convenient for Kayden and themselves and have the extra benefit of looking really cute on Kayden.
