The house was unusually quiet as Mishti packed her bag, her hands trembling with the weight of her decision. Each item she placed inside felt like a step closer to abandoning the love of her life. Her heart ached, but her mind was made up-she couldn't let Abir suffer the constant tug of war between her and his mother. The guilt was unbearable.
As she zipped up her suitcase, her Bade Papa, Vishambhar, and Badi Ma, Rajshri, walked into the room. They had sensed something was wrong for days now, but this-Mishti leaving-was something they couldn't fathom.
"Mishti," Vishambhar began softly, his eyes filled with concern, "are you sure about this? Leaving everything behind... leaving Abir? Are you sure this is what you want?"
Mishti looked up, her eyes red from the tears she had been holding back. She could see the hurt in her Bade Papa's eyes, the worry etched into Badi Ma's face. But she couldn't let her own pain affect them any longer.
"Yes, Bade Papa," she said, her voice wavering but determined. "I don't want Abir to be in a situation where he has to choose between his mother and me. It's not fair to him. I'm doing this for him, for his happiness."
Rajshri stepped closer, gently placing a hand on Mishti's cheek. "But, beta, don't you think his happiness lies with you? Abir loves you... deeply. You can't just walk away from that."
Mishti's tears threatened to spill over, but she took a deep breath, trying to stay composed. "I know, Badi Ma. But I love him enough to let him go. I can't be the reason for breaking his family apart. His mother... she needs him more than I do."
Vishambhar sighed, his heart heavy with helplessness. "If this is what you believe is right, we won't stop you. But know that love... real love, doesn't come easy, Mishti. Are you sure you're willing to give that up?"
Mishti nodded, her heart breaking with every word. "I have to, Bade Papa. I don't have a choice."
As she walked out of the house with her suitcase in hand, her heart felt heavier than ever. Every step toward the airport felt like a step away from her future with Abir.
----------------------------
On the other side of town, Kuhu rushed into Abir's room, her face flushed with worry. She found him sitting by the window, lost in thought, unaware of the storm about to hit him.
"Abir bro," Kuhu said, her voice urgent. "I need to talk to you. It's about Mishti."
Abir turned to her, sensing the seriousness in her tone. "What happened, Kuhu bro? Is Mishti okay?"
Kuhu took a deep breath, her eyes reflecting the weight of the secret she was about to reveal. "Mishti... she's leaving, Abir bro. She's going to the airport right now. She's planning to leave you."
Abir's heart stopped for a moment, the words hitting him like a punch to the gut. "What do you mean she's leaving? Where is she going?"
Kuhu quickly explained everything, her words tumbling out. "She told me she doesn't want you to choose between her and your mother. She feels guilty, like she's coming between your family. I tried to stop her, but she's convinced this is the right thing to do."
Abir's mind raced as he processed the information. Mishti, his Mishti, was leaving him because of his mother, because she didn't want to hurt him. But didn't she realize she was his everything? He couldn't lose her-not like this.
"I can't let her go," Abir said, standing abruptly. "I can't let her leave me, Kuhu."
Kuhu nodded, sensing his desperation. "Go, Abir bro. Go get her before it's too late."
Without wasting another second, Abir grabbed his car keys and bolted out of the house. His heart pounded in his chest as he drove through the city, his mind replaying every moment with Mishti. How had things come to this? How could she believe that leaving him would make anything better?
---
At the airport, Mishti stood at the departure gate, her hands gripping the handle of her suitcase tightly. She stared at the boarding pass in her hand, her vision blurred with unshed tears. This was it-the moment she had dreaded and yet forced herself to accept. She had to walk away for Abir's sake.
But deep down, her heart screamed for him.
As she took a step toward the gate, her phone buzzed. It was Abir's name flashing on the screen, but she couldn't bring herself to answer. If she heard his voice, she knew she would break.
Suddenly, a voice called out her name, cutting through the noise of the airport. "Mishti!"
She turned around, and there he was-Abir, out of breath, running toward her. His face was a mix of panic and determination, his eyes locked on hers.
"Abir?" Mishti's voice was barely audible, her heart racing at the sight of him.
"Mishti, please don't go," Abir begged as he reached her, his voice raw with emotion. "I know what you're thinking. I know you're doing this because of my mother, but you can't leave me. You can't."
Tears finally spilled down Mishti's cheeks. "Abir, I don't want to hurt you anymore. I don't want you to be forced to choose between me and your family."
Abir shook his head, stepping closer, his hands gently cupping her face. "But, Mishti, don't you see? I've already chosen. I've chosen you. You're my future. You're the one I want to build my life with. I can't live without you, and I won't let you leave."
"But Meenakshi Aunty-" Mishti started, but Abir interrupted her, his voice soft but firm.
"I'll handle Ma(mother), Mishti. I'll make her understand, but I can't lose you. Please, don't leave me. I love you, and I need you by my side."
Mishti's heart shattered at his words, the love in his eyes undeniable. She had been trying to protect him, but in doing so, she had been hurting them both.
"I love you too, Abir," she whispered, finally letting the weight of her decision fall away.
Abir pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly as if he'd never let go. "Then don't leave, Mishti. Stay with me. We'll face everything together!"
