"That bastard got what was coming to him." I assured Joey as I laid beside him on the hospital bed, but made sure I didn't hurt him.

"Yeah, but she's been through so much already, she didn't need to see her son killing her husband." He replied after he sighed.

"Husband? He didn't even treat her the way a husband is suppose to treat their wife. She didn't deserve anything that Charles did to her." My voice got harsher as I thought what she went through. Roseline, Joey's mother, is the kindest person despite her situation. She always showed love to everyone, even to her abuser.

Whenever I went over to his house, she made sure that Charles wasn't there because she was afraid that he'd hurt me too. Joey had called for help many times but due to the lack of evidence, they couldn't charge him, but this time, Charles went too far. His hits were harder and never stopped. When get got tired, he got a knife and started stabbing Roseline, Joey stepped in and shot Charles multiple times. Even though he killed his own father, he had no remorse, no regret, and the situation was written off as self defense.

"Well, in any case, things are going to be better now. His can't hurt you guys anymore." I was happy for the both of them. They don't have to constantly walk on eggshells in their own home anymore and they can do whatever they please without the looming fear of what Charles would do. However, Charles didn't leave a penny behind since he spent it all so Joey is still going to do illegal business.

The smile on his face was genuine as he let that sink in. Soon after, his doctor came in and said that the wound in his left shoulder is taken care of, but he needs two weeks worth of rest to recover fully. After that was discussed, he was discharged. Roseline, on the other hand, couldn't be discharged because of how badly she was beaten. So I told Joey stay at my house until his mother is discharged.

The next day we went to school with time to kill, so me and Joey went to the library. However, it wasn't as peaceful as I hoped it would. Girls kept finding their way to us and ask Joey how he got hurt in a very flirty way. Joey being the heart throb he was, he flirted back. Seeing Joey as my brother, I couldn't bare to hear the cheesy shit coming out of his mouth so I made up a lame excuse and walked away.

I decided to take this time to get my stuff from my locker but just as I was about to grab my last book, my own locker slammed shut. The sudden action startled me as I jump back and held my hand close to my chest, only imagining the pain of getting my hand stuck in the locker.

"What the hell is wrong with you? You almost got my fingers you asswipe." I hissed through gritted teeth as I stared at the asshole who was the cause of my locker closing so suddenly.

"You hear that? It's me not caring." Once he mimicked my words from yesterday, I immediately knew why he did what he did. With a heavy sighed, I rubbed my eyes from the lack of sleep and calmed down.

"Look, I'm sorry for yesterday, I was in a rush to go to the hospital and wasn't looking where I was going. But that doesn't give you an excuse to break my fingers. Talk about rude." I noticed two other guys standing quietly behind him as I talked. Why do they look like they ready to defended this guy like his some kind of important person?

"Is there a problem here?" Joey cut in as he stood beside me.

"It's none of your business, get lost." One of the other guys responded coldly.

"It is my business you prike." Joey shot back, taking a step forward as he did so. I knew that I had to stop this before it got worse.

"May may, look at the time. We better be going." I spoke with fake urgentness as I grabbed Joey's good arm and pulled him down the hallway that slowly started to get crowded.

"Why'd you do that for?"

"Need I remind you?" I pointed at his arm resting in a sling, resulting him releasing a puff of air like a child. I know it's hard for Joey not to use that arm too much since that is his dominant hand, but I know he'll adjust quickly. School ended faster than I expected and when I got home, Celeste jumped into my arms.

"I had the best time at school Cindy!" She shouted at me but before she could go on about how her day went, she looked at Joey and saw his arm. "What happen to Uncle Joey?"

"He just a big klutz and fell while skateboarding, isn't that right Joey?" I said as I turned to him and gave him a big smile. He nodded.

"Yup, call me Klutzy Uncle Joey." He gave his own smile as he spoke with a joking tone, making Celeste giggle. Hearing her giggle was like hearing bells for the first time, I couldn't help but love her giggling. After putting her down, she ran off to the living room, pulling Joey along with her, and Randy walked out as if they were taking shifts. Since Randy doesn't have a six period class, he leaves early to picks up Celeste. Depending on the day, he could even sleep over because I'm going my nightly thing or because he was working too much to remember to check the time. It was a good thing that he lives alone, but we talked about him moving in with us so it's easier for everyone.

"I don't have anything set-up for you, but there is a race today. Are you and Joey going to go?"

"What time is it scheduled for?" I asked as I put my bag down on the kitchen table and grabbed a cold drink from the refrigerator.

"Around eleven thirty. I can stay and watch Celeste." Randy replied as he tailed me into the living room where Joey and Celeste were playing with her dolls on the floor.

"Yeah, please. It's been a while since I've been out." I plopped on the couch and watched as Celeste and Joey played. I couldn't help but take my phone out and steal a picture of the two. The picture was just too pure to keep locked away in my gallery so I set it to my lock screen.
