1: The Fight

Lily looked at the clock for what seemed like the billionth time. She was waiting for husband to get home from "work".

For the last six months, her husband,Xavier, has been out of work and has been singing at a trashy bar for money. Lately, Lily has been spending her nights waiting for her husband to come home late and drunk. Her fingers twirled through her blonde hair as she sat on the creme colored sofa with her knees tucked under her.

This was beginning to be too much. She couldn't keep waiting for her drunk husband to waltz in then collapse on the couch. She wanted her old Xavier back. The Xavier that would hold her when she was down, kiss her randomly just because he could and argue with her just so he could tell her how much he loved her. But this man....this man was an imposter.

That wasn't her Xavier that came in smelling like whiskey and cheap perfume.

Lily had been begging for more hours at the law firm she had been working at to avoid seeing him. But now she had too much over time and they couldn't afford that. So her nights were now wasted like this.

She wondered why she even cared. Lily thought about what would happen if she packs her bag and leaves Casper,Wyoming. Her thoughts then galloped over to her husband. As much it hurt to watch him come home now of days, Lily couldn't bring herself to leave him.

No matter what, she still loved him. They had been together since her freshman year of highschool. It was that little cliché. He was a Junior and a football player and she was his little blonde cheerleaders. Now they have been married for five years and what did they have to show for it - six months of a living hell.

Lily wanted to think positively but she just couldn't. All she could think was - what if this is my life now?

Tired of waiting, Lily called the bar manager, Ed.

"Hello, this is Buds Bar." Ed answered.

With a sigh, she replied, "This is Lily,Mr.Ed. I was calling to see if Xavier is still there."

"No ma'am. He left just a few minutes ago. Should be there shortly,Lily." The stout man said.

"Thank you, Mr.Ed. Have a nice night." stated Lily, playing with the cable on her landline.

Ed let out a small laugh, "You as well,Lily. Don't be so hard on him Lils, he has been having it rough." With that,Ed hung up.

Having it rough? Lily thought with a mental snort. She was the one slaving away and working while he sang for half naked woman while drinking beer and whiskey!

Lily's thoughts were interrupted when she seen two headlights pull into the driveway. Game time Lily, she whispered.

Xavier stumbled into the house holding a beer bottle. He seen Lily on the couch and grimaced. Judging by the look on her face, he knew he was in deep shit. Rubbing his hand over the stubble on his jaw, Xavier sat down on the other sofa across from his wife.

"Go ahead......yell." Xavier slurred, taking another sip of the beer.

Lily just tilted her head to the side, "I don't know what your talking about." She said.

He let out a half-hearted laugh. "Don't play games with me Lily Anne. I already know you want to throw stuff and yell at me so go ahead."

"Why do you think that?" asked an "oblivious" Lily.
