'No, not like that' says Emily, I look back at Teegen who seems to be enjoying the scene a little too much. 'What?' I ask, Teegen doesn't say anything, so I look into the kind eyes of Teegen's mother for an answer. 'No, April we are folding the mixture not whipping or stirring' I raise my eyebrows. Teegen joins in, 'she can pass the best passes in the league but' she gestures to my sorrowful mess, I was practically covered in flour. 'She can't bake some simple biscuits.' We all laugh. I like this. Teegen and her mother get on well and her mother's place is kept to nicely. I saw a few wooden clocks and pictures of Teegen through the years on the way in. some of them, with me in them from our academy years on the wall in the hallway.
The biscuits safely on the tray thanks to Emily who rescued it from my apparent disastrous baking skills. She looks back at the two of us. 'April will you be staying with us tonight? The biscuits will take an hour or so to cook then we can have it for dessert after dinner.' I look at the bird themed clock behind her. 'Yes' I say. 'Just like old times'. We start cleaning up the kitchen, I start scooping flour off the counter that I spilled.
'yes' says Emily 'you two were always the closest of friends'. 'Hey!' says Teegen 'I had much better friends' I laugh 'who if not me?' she was stuck for words, so we all laugh. 'Oh' says Emily over her shoulder as she bends slightly peeking into the oven to check on the biscuits. 'I know last time you were both young you stayed in the spare room but we renovated it into a study. So your fine with sharing with Teegen right?'
I act repulsed, 'with Teegen?' I say dramatically. 'Yeah, her snoring shouldn't wake me that much' I joke. Emily laughs a little as Teegen pretends to hit me with the dirty wooden spoon. 'I don't snore' Teegen states definitely. 'That loudly' her mother adds. I laugh too now with the older Koohln.
I lay down first with a full belly on the soft bed sheets. Teegen comes over and slips under the covers on her side. I stare at my phone. Teegen bats it lightly with her pillow getting my attention. 'You know you don't have to sleep all the way over there? I'm not going to bite you'. I laugh, 'I was just giving you space' I say simply, truth being I was a little nervous, I'd hadn't shared a bed with another female since under 17s at camp. Teegen patted the bed in the middle of the bed, 'Its okay' she says 'can you at least move a bit closer to the middle, I'm worried you're going to fall off over there'.
I laughed it was true I was practically falling off the bed. I get up and acting annoyed starfish into the middle she looks at me. I return her look. She takes her phone from beside her, 'do you need the light?' No I say. She turns it off. It is true, I think as I fall asleep in the middle, she still snores.
