I pulled my sweater down and tried not to grow frustrated that it was more cropped than it looked when I put it in my gym bag. I debated on skipping class because a small part of me didn't want Jason to see my scars. The near my belly button is especially noticeable and it happened to peak out under this shirt.

Fuck it, I'm skipping today. I sent him a quick message telling him that I wouldn't be joining him before throwing the bag over my shoulder. My heart started to tighten and something that I wasn't used to feeling creeped over me. Shame.

"You look fine to me." Jason said as I walked out of the locker room.

"Yeah." I hesitated. "My mind is not in it today."

He stared down at me and I looked away under his gaze. I've always been able to hold eye contact with people because it tells me everything I need to know about people.

But, I felt like I didn't want to look into those kind eyes because I didn't want the evilness of my own to taint his gentleness in any way.

He stood quietly for a second.

"Do you wanna go to Baton Rouge with me?" He blurted out and I looked at him.

"I know you don't know me that well. But, you can share my location with someone if you want. I just think you could use a break, that's all." He rambled and his skin started to turn a light pink.

I thought about it for a second. "Give me a second." I told him before stepping into the locker room.

"Trenay." I whispered into the phone when she picked up.

"Girl girl, why the fuck are you calling me so early in the morning." She groaned.

"The big man from my class wants me to go to Baton Rouge with him." I whispered with nervous energy coursing through me.

I should've done a check. But, I don't want to know anything about him without him telling me. But, it's stupid considering I run an operation and I have more than a few enemies. I breathed.

"So? Go." She said and it sounded like she was turning over. I got your location and send me his.

"What's his last name?" She asked.

"Ingram."

"Bitch, the Pelican's Forward!" She screeched.

"Shit, I knew he looked familiar." I muttered.

"Yeah, get your ass some dick and get off my line. Strap up." She said, hanging up the phone.

I switched back into my hoodie that covered everything and walked out.

"Yeah I'm down." I said following him out of the center.

He smiled and it was so genuine and I wanted to gag at how soft his smile made me.
