The two of you start speed walking, luckily his parents house wasn't too far, maybe about twenty minutes.
It felt like you were walking at the slowest pace possible, you wanted to get there as quickly as you could but the world felt so slow in this moment. Panic settled on you as you wished you'd make it there in time to say goodbye.
Javi's fast paced walked turned into a jog, then a full on sprint. You continued at your own pace, not being able to keep up with him. Sirens blared in the distance and your heart dropped, praying that the ambulance wasn't for his father.
Arriving at the house wasn't a pretty sight. Javier laid flat on the ground, David towering over him. David has Javis shoulders pinned down as he continued to scream at his brother, disappointed that he wasn't there days earlier.
"I'm sorry, okay? David, Jesus... I..."
"Sorry isn't bringing him back, you selfish fuck!" David pulls his arm back, winding to punch Javier.
"Stop!" You interrupt, grabbing both of their attention. You tilt your head towards the font door where David's son was standing, watching the scene take place.
"Why are you fighting? I could hear you from inside. What's going on?" He asks.
Javier pushes Davids arms off him, breaking from his grasp before sitting up. "Don't worry, Gabe. We're just horsing around. Just a joke between brothers, you know?"
"Yeah. Your uncle doesn't know how to take anything seriously." David glares towards Javi, then back to you. His son nods slowly, heading back inside after his father reassured him they're okay.
David let's out a sigh and offers a hand to Javier.
"I got it." Javi stands on his own. David shakes his head, sitting himself back down on the porch step.
You finally walk over to the two and frown noticing the fresh bruise across Javiers face. You couldn't help but feel a little guilty, you guys definitely could've showed up earlier today instead of planning to go to some stupid dinner.
"Javi ran as soon as he got your call. The traffic was terrible." You state, breaking the silence that lingered between the three of you.
"You didn't slow him down?" David asks, cracking open a can of beer. You turn towards him confused. "Why would I?"
He shrugs. "You tend to."
Javier speaks up, holding a cold beer can on his bruised cheek. "Y/n doesn't stop me from doing anything David. That's all me."
"Hard to believe." He throws back.
As much as you wanted to argue with David, you couldn't right now. You knew it was wrong, you knew he was grieving and needed something to take his anger out on. Of course that just so happened to be you and Javi.
The two of you only ever fueled his fire, it didn't matter the situation.
David was never a fan of his brothers fiancée. He believed that she was stopping him from seeing his family. In reality you cared a lot for their family. You loved Davids kids and if anything, wanted to spend more time with them. They seemed to really like you too. Whenever important events occurred Javier just didn't have the time. He's a baseball player for christ sake, a busy guy, or was.. at least.
You stand up and head inside, leaving the boys some privacy to talk on their own.
You being in David's presence would only tick him off more.Upon walking inside you see Javiers mother, head buried in her hands choking out sobs. You carefully walked towards the woman, rubbing your hand against her back for comfort.
