Chapter 3-Out of the woods

I'm not sure if I can handle this. I really thought it was gonna be okay. I thought we were gonna get married, and move into our own place. I thought I was finally gonna exist in peace in district 7.

But I guess not.

It has been a couple of hours, and I am guessing we are out of the district now. The train has stopped a few times, but nobody has been forced into here yet. Not much communication has happened. Besides the whispers from the other tribute pair in here.

Me and Treech have had our arms linked this whole time, but haven't spoken. I feel like I should break our silence soon. I just need to hear his voice.

"Treech" I whisper. He just hums in response. "Are you um... Are you alright?"

I know he isn't but I know talking about things makes him feel better. "Are you seriously asking me that right now? I think we both know that I am not okay, and I know you aren't either" He says in a harsh tone.

"Sorry. If it makes you feel any better I'm sure every one feels like shit right now" I say trying to lighten the mood a bit.

"Yeah that makes feel great" he replies sarcastically before sighing and saying "I'm sorry. I am being rude to you and you are just trying to be nice. I'm just upset that we both got dragged into this. If it was just me it would be fine..... but not with us both here"

"It's okay. I understand where your pain is coming from. I feel the same way. We are both getting screwed over here, and it's okay to be angry" Angry would be an understatement, but I feel more sadness than angry currently.

I can tell he was about to say something until the train came to a halt and the door slid open. The arm that was once looped through mine, is now protectively wrapped around me. I feel uneasy, so his arm is very welcomed.

I can hear distant yelling until a female is aggressively thrown into the train, and falls with a hard smack. "Fucking bitches" she mutters as her district partner follows into behind.

From the little I can see before the door slams shut the girl has orange hair with some sort of scarf in it, and the boy has a hat on. Not a hat that looks like Treech's though.

After the light is gone again, the train sets back into motion as the other tributes get settled. I can hear them arguing to each other for a couple minutes before it gets quiet again.

"So what districts are y'all from?" the new boy says.

I can hear his partner smack his arm and not quietly whisper "What the hell are you doing Tanner?"

"Oww . Brandy I am just trying to break the silence. It's too quiet in hear" he says. So I guess their names are Tanner and Brandy. Interesting.

"We're from seven" Treech says cautiously "And you?"

"Oh your lumberjack's. Well were from ten. We work in the slaughterhouse" Tanner says. He has an accent I notice. One that I have never heard before.

Tanner then proceeds to go on a whole tangent about what he does for work. He doesn't spare any of the gory detail on how to properly dismantle farm animals. He just goes on and on about how skinning it is the worst part, and how he hates the mess.

I know I should be grossed out by all this, but I am not. I'm gonna have to get used to because of where we are all going. Eventually I interrupt him and ask "I don't mean to be rude, but what is a cow?"

"Wait so you seriously don't know what a cow is?" Brandy says like I am stupid.

"Um yeah. We don't have many animals back in seven. We are in charge of trees, not animals" I say awkwardly.

"Well cows are these fat mammals. They got four legs and oval ears that stick out. They come in all different color black, white, brown, creme you name it. They are the prime milk and meat source in our district" Tanner says.

"Okay" I say.

After a few minutes of it being quiet Tanner speak again saying "I really hate silence. It's just so weird. How big are your trees in seven? And how do y'all do it everyday? I had to cut a apple tree down once and it sucked."

"Well they can range from about 50-400 hundred feet depending on the kind of tree and where you cut them" I say.

"Damn that's tall" he says.

I was gonna say more then Treech finally spoke up and told them "It's actually not to difficult once you get used to it. We have to start small at a young age, and as we get older we take on the larger trees. So our muscles gradually get stronger."

After that Tanner went on to pester the other tributes whom I don't think were as willing to talk as we were. I'm glad Treech was able to finish talking for me. He is more of a talker than I am and I think hearing more about other districts might have been a good distraction.

I can feel Treech shuffle around and take his hat off before whispering in my ear "do you mind if I rest my head on your shoulder?"

"Go for it" I whsiper back as I move around so he can lay his head down. After he sets his hat down, he ends up burying his head in my neck and I wrap my arms around him.

It's not long after that when I hear his soft snores and feel his breath tickle my neck. It's a comforting feeling and it relaxes me. I really hope that he'll be okay in the end. Even if it's not with me.

But I don't let myself think about that right now. I just focus on the boy in my arms and shut my eyes. Which makes me fall in a slumber of my own.

They met district 10's finest duo. I didn't know how I was going to write this chapter, so I just added Tanner and Brandy for dialogue reasons. Also I feel like Tanner is a very chatty person and that it drives Brandy nuts.

Also fun fact I am came up with the details for this story in a Costco :)
