Grace's eyes shot open as her alarm clock whaled in her ears. She reached over and smacked the off button. She sat up and swung her legs over. Her feet hit her soft plush carpeting.
She met Piper out front of the High School. Grace and Piper are in a good spot on the food chain. They aren't picked on and everyone genuinely thinks they are pretty cool.
"Okay, so I was thinking." Grace sighed and gave Piper the death stare. "I think we should color our hair together."
Grace thought about it. She had thought about doing it before but, her hair had never been dyed. "Yes, we should."
Piper smiled. "After school. Come with me and we will do this."
She glanced at the redhead girl. "We're both gonna need to bleach our hair first."
They both laughed and walked to class. Grace and Piper both sat in the back of the class. Piper leaned over and slipped a piece of paper on Grace's desk. Grace opened it. 'What color are you thinking?' Piper's handwriting was quite neat. 'I don't know yet :(' Her handwriting on the other hand was very messy. She crumpled it up and as soon as the teacher turned around tossed it onto Piper's desk. Piper folded it up into a paper airplane and tossed it back to her. 'Decide soon and you should make a playlist for later.' Grace folded it into a boat and slid it across the floor. 'LOL, Okay, You better make some good food too.' Piper just set it on Grace's desk. 'You know I will, You better not have to pee while I'm doing your hair lol.' Grace wrote I won't lol.' She folded it into a plane again.
"Grace Milles and Piper Mason. Come up here and read the notes you've been passing!" Mr. Cedric shouted.
The two girls stood in front of the class reading aloud the notes they had written to each other. Grace was just laughing and couldn't even get a sentence out.
"Just go back to your seats." their teacher just shook his head.
They listened and walked back to their seats. The bell rang and the mob of students rushed to the cafeteria. Grace, Piper, and Tyler all sat together.
"Hey Grace, what's up?" Tyler asked.
"Nothing." She said, Her mind was filled with so many thoughts.
"Oh, that's cool," Tyler replied. He didn't know what to say. He just smiled at Grace. He stuffed his face with pizza. Grace looked at him. He was very attractive. He had freckles sprinkled across his nose and cheeks, and brown hair, Exactly like Piper. Though his hair was usually dyed some weird unnatural color. Grace actually couldn't remember the last time it was his natural color. He was funny and very nice. She smiled. Tyler looked at her and smiled. Piper looked at them and smiled. She could read people. She was sure they both liked each other.
Grace thought of her dream. Maybe it was just a fluke but, She thought of Piper and how beautiful she is.
The rest of the day seemed to drag by. The bell rang and they immediately booked it to Piper's car. They arrived at the beauty store and walked to the section with all the abnormal colors.
Piper smiled and looked at Grace. "Okay, Gray what color."
She smiled and her eyes lit up. "Pink." she beamed.
Piper just giggled and grabbed the bottle of dye. She looked around and eventually decided herself. She grabbed a bottle and some bleach. They paid and left. Once at Piper's house, she began her process. Grace was sitting on a stool in the kitchen. They were listening to Harry Styles' album.
"Piper what if this ruins my hair," Grace said with a lot of concern in her voice.
"It won't, I promise and I'm not bleaching your hair anyway." Piper looked at her.
She applied the slimy pink dye to Grace's light brown hair. While it sat in her hair Piper began bleaching her hair. Grace played a game on her phone. She becomes distracted by a thought. 'Where is Tyler?'. That boy usually was bothering them and annoying them because he enjoyed it.
"Hey, Piper?" She yelled.
"Yeah, Gray." She replied.
"Where is Tyler? He usually would have bothered us by now." She asked.
Piper giggled quietly to herself. "He's at Jayden's house."
"Okay."
"Oh Gray, it's time to rinse your hair," Piper yelled.
She helped Grace rinse her hair out and blow dry it.
"Okay, Gray go look," Piper told her.
Grace smiled at herself in the mirror. She played with her hair and twirled. Her wavy hair is now a lovely shade of pink. It looked nice with her skin tone. She smiled at Piper.
"I love it so much." She hugged Piper "Thank you so much Pips."
"Gray, it's getting close to your curfew." She grabbed her keys.
When Grace got to her house she was nervous. She didn't check with her mum about dyeing her hair pink. She walked in hesitantly. Of course, the mom sense is a thing.
"Gracie is that you?" Her mum yelled.
"Yeah, Ma it's me." She answered. She knew there was no way to avoid her.
Her mum came around and met up with her in the front doorway.
"Grace Lee Milles, what did you do to your hair?" Her mother slightly yelled.
"I dyed it. Isn't it a great color? Looks nice with my skin tone too."
"You are right and I mean, there's nothing I can do about it now." Her mother sighed. "Now go off to your room and get ready for bed."
"Okay love you, mum." Grace smiled and gave her mum a hug.
She wrung her hand along the cool polished surface of the railing as her feet padded along the steps. She panted a bit as she reached the top of the steps. There are a lot of stairs. She looked at the signs on her door. Each one is as uninviting as the last. She burst in and let her door slam. She sighed and lay on her bed. She thought about her day and her dream.
