Smut in this chapter.
Ashton and I went back to the manor in Baltimore, Papa was right. The feds went through everything. The kitchen was only stocked with canned goods because everything else was taken for evidence.
Upon entering Papa's old room, I looked around. His bed was neatly made, his clothes carefully hung in the closet. His desk was empty except for a few pieces of paper. An old photograph of him and his mother sat on the nightstand. The same place I'd run to as a kid when I was scared. It was empty. Nothing much had been touched but the atmosphere felt depressing. I felt a deep sense of sadness as I remembered all the memories I'd shared with Papa in this room. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to hold back the tears. I was overwhelmed with a feeling of emptiness and loss. I put my suitcase down and crawled into the bed. I cried for what seemed like hours. I felt so scared, alone, helpless. I eventually fell asleep, exhausted from crying and overwhelmed by the emotions I was feeling. When I woke up in the morning, I felt a little better, but still felt a deep sadness. I knew that nothing would ever be the same again.
I slowly got up and got ready for the day, determined to get through it. I had to keep going, no matter how hard it was. I had to face the future, no matter how daunting it looked. Ashton came in and comforted me. We unpacked some and just relaxed after I got the utilities turned back on.
A couple of days go by and I walk into the kitchen and see Alana Bloom. I look at her and then walk to the fridge where I grab some eggs.
"What are you doing in my house?" I asked fixing my breakfast.
She looked different, a more bold look I should say.
"What happened?" She asked.
"I'm back home?" I said dumbfounded.
"From where?"
"College." I said scrambling some eggs. A man in a wheelchair came in and was mentioning something about the plates. His face, disfigured. Ashton came down and began prepping the food with me while he looked concerned at the man, almost as if he knew him.
"Who's this?" I asked, annoyed that Alana and some guy just showed up to the house. Probably thinking it's vacant.
"This is Mason Verger." She introduced in a neutral tone. Ashton put the coffee pot back down with a thud, almost breaking it. He stormed up the stairs.
"We weren't expecting company, so see your way out as I go make sure my husband is okay." I said before rushing upstairs. I grabbed Ashton who was curled in a ball and held him tight.
"He can't go upstairs baby he can't hurt you." I reassured.
"I- I-" He stuttered.
"Come on, we'll make breakfast then sign up for our classes yeah?" I said trying to get him started with a routine. If I get a routine with him started then it's harder to panic. Papa taught me that.
We went back down stairs and Mason was gone. Alana stood where she was.
"I need to know what happened Michael." She said more seriously. Like a motherly command.
"We went to college." I said. "Home for a while since there's renovations going on."
"Where did you come from?" She asked.
"Lithuania."
She got closer to me, I could see what she was trying to do.
"Where's Hannibal Lecter?"
"Right in front of you." I said, doing my best not to laugh. Ashton couldn't, that bitch started cackling. Which led to me laughing.
"He's not here Michael. Where did he flee to?" She asked, obviously not amused by our laughter.
"Oh puns and plays on words are so interesting, aren't they darling?" I asked Ashton who took over the cooking for me.
"I don't know honestly, We left for college and haven't heard from him since." I said walking back to the stove where I prepared the plates.
"Alright then.." Alana said clutching her cane. "I can see you're lying but I won't press you about it any further. Stockholm syndrome survivors are hard to get information from."
"Now, if you don't mind perhaps we can talk later, and do make sure that human filth never sets a wheel in here again."
She began walking to the door, she stopped for a moment then turned around to look at me.
"Be safe, if you need anything call me. I'll come by to check on you from time to time." She said.
"I will do that." I responded. "Thank you."
She left and Ashton and I began eating. After breakfast I was washing dishes when he came up behind me and hugged me.
"You lied to her, why Dr. Lecter?"
"I'm not Dr. yet." I said bringing him towards me to kiss.
We ate our breakfast then chose our classes and electives. It would be a matter of time before we move to Lithuania.
