Lemurkit lay in the crook of her mother's belly, suckling. She listened to her sister play.

"Lemurkit! Come on, open your eyes? I wanna go outside!! Its boring in this stupid den..." Lemurkit could just see her sister pouting.

Their mother, Brightshine touched her tail to Lemurkit's head for a heartbeat, then moved it to Turtlekit's. "Now, Turtlekit. Don't rush your sister... You can play just fine in here," she said gently. Lemurkit smiled as her mother said the last words. "Your sister and your sister alone chooses when its time."

Yep. Thats what I'll do! Lemurkit thought with a happy smile. Then, just wanting to impress her sister, she smiled. And I'll do it right now!

She squinted her eyes tightly, scrunching her tiny delicate nose and taking a deep breath. "Ready, Turtlekit?" Lemurkit boasted. Then, she pushed open her eyes, expecting a bright array of colors, or a giant rainbow swirling around her mother's golden tabby pelt. But all she saw was a brighter dark. Lemurkit wanted to wail in fear.

"Why can't I see?!"

Brightshine gasped and quickly slapped her tail over her mouth. "Don't let Morningstar hear you, love!" She whispered, and Lemurkit suddenly felt a new fear. She knew what Morningstar did to kits that wern't normal... She had lost her own brother to it, according to Brightshine. She widened her big blue eyes with fear.

"M-Mom, what's gonna happen to me?" She whispered, curling her fluffy striped tail around her paws. Her mother pulled her close, brushing back her long fur that always tended to fall in front of Lemurkit's eyes.

"Shh... Baby, you'll be fine. Just listen to everything I say, and I will keep you safe..."

Lemurkit whimpered and leaned in closer to her sister. "What do I do?" She whispered.

"Act normal. If Morningstar doesn't know, she won't think to hurt you. You'll be fine, my love... StarClan made you for a reason and they won't let us down now..." Her mother soothed. Lemurkit nodded with another sniff, and let her mother soothe her to sleep. It was only just before she drifted off that she realized her what her mother said.
