Origins of Maria and Levi's romance

~*~

A club was the last place a law student should be, especially when said law student had a major exam first thing in the morning. Yet Maria Reed cannot be found in her room, instead she was at the dance floor dancing with her best friend, Nanaba, to a startup DJ's beats; drowning in booze than burying her face in law books, and wearing a revealing, little black dress than her Royal Mitras Academy jumper that she found comforting in the cold nights of the year.

It would be a lie if she said that she put up a fight with Nanaba about going to the bar, in fact the moment her roommate mentioned drinks she closed her damned book and went to get her – as her father called it – sluttiest dress she could find. She has been studying for weeks now, she was sure to pass that exam tomorrow – maybe not by her father's standards, but she was sure to secure her place in the Top 5 students. She might hate the family reputation that her father's been drilling into her mind, but she still has her own standards as well.

Maria laughed as Nanaba started moving her behind against her front. Playing along, Maria had her hands on Nanaba's hips and pulled her close to her crotch, and one hand trailed up to the woman's chest and then her neck to bring her ear close to her lips.

"I think you got Mike's attention now," Maria said, battling against the loud music. Her eyes looked teasingly at the man leaning against the counter with Hange Zoe, both sharing a drink. The latter seemed to be talking to the former but Mike's attention was far from whatever Hange had to say. His eyes were at their way, specifically at Nanaba and where Maria's hands were roaming on the woman's body.

Normally he wouldn't find their dance concerning, just a couple of girlfriends having fun, but everyone knew that Maria enjoyed the company of both men and women.

Nanaba laughed and teasingly kissed Maria's cheek, then whispered to her ear. "I think you got Smith and Dok''s attention too."

Just as she said, Maria saw Erwin Smith and Nile Dok's eyes at her. Her face scrunched up at the idea of the two men watching her while sharing a drink.

"Come on, I need a drink!" Nanaba took Maria's hand and dragged her to the counter but made sure to be far from where Mike and Hange were, just to mess with them. She kept waving her hand to catch the bartender's attention but the man was far too busy cleaning the counter after serving a dozen shots to some girl who left to meet her friends. "Either he's deaf or purposely ignoring me – Mari, come over here and show him your tits or something!"

Shaking her head in amusement, Maria told Nanaba, "the music is probably too loud, dumbass!" Then, when the bartender went to get another glass, Maria leaned forward on the counter and waved her hand to catch his attention. "Hey!"

The bartender looked from the glasses he was putting away and finally noticed them. Passing by a couple of his colleagues, who were busy as he, he met them with a permanent frown on his face and a question, "what do you want?"

Someone isn't in the mood, Maria thought but then gave their orders, "she'll have a Vermouth and I'll get a whiskey – neat."

The bartender's brows shot up in surprise, but said, "coming right up," before making their drinks. He first made the Vermouth, pouring the drink into a glass with ice, then topped with three olives on a toothpick, and an orange slice. When it was her turn, the bartender took out one of those fancy looking glasses that Maria liked and poured down two-shots worth of whiskey.

"That's more than what I'm paying for." She told him.

"The other one's on the house," he told her. "I don't often get someone asking for a neat whiskey."
