Iris 9 years old

It has been years since he saw the outside world. Seven years to be exact. And for the past seven years of waiting and looking out of his cell's window, he couldn't help but be impatient for the next few minutes. As he walked down the hall of cells, many of the inmates he grew to familiarize watched as he finally took his steps as a free man. Some greeted him with congratulations for finally finishing his sentence, while some glared at him, envious that he finally got out. When the former inmate and the guard came to the last gate, they waited for the officer inside the office to let them pass, a few minutes passed before he heard the relieving sound of the buzz signaling the gate to be open.

The officer finally took off the cuffs off of the man and then gestured him to the counter where the man will be retrieving the possessions, he had the time he was imprisoned. The man turned to the officer at the other side of the counter, she smiled at him warmly.

"Seven years..." The officers sighed. She took out the bag that held the man's belongings and sprawled everything on the counter. "I guess it'll be a huge transition for you."

The man took his clothes, which he thought would be a bit bigger since he lost weight for the past seven years, and then his wallet, ring, and a phone.

"Will someone be picking you up?" The officer asked.

The man smirked.

"Doubt the runt would even think that I'm still alive." The man said.

"Would you like to use the phone –"

"Nah, I'll do fine on my own –" The man coughed violently. After he recovered, he proceeded to continue his way to change out of the orange suite. " – I always do."

Levi sighed out of frustration. He folded the newspaper he was reading and tossed it on the stack of papers. He massaged the bridge of his nose as he tried to calm himself, but there was no use. The headline of the paper hit a nerve.

"You seem to be more stressed than usual."

Levi listed his head and found Mike standing by his desk with a mug of coffee with the mug that Iris gave him that had "Best Uncle" painted on the surface. Levi sighed, and to answer the up coming question that his friend was to ask, he nodded to the direction of the news paper on his desk. Mike turned and read the headline: 'KENNY THE RIPPER FINISHES HIS TEN-YEAR SENTENCE IN JUST SEVEN YEARS'; he also took note of the photo of the man. It sent a chill down his spine upon seeing the sight of him.

"So, he's finally out." Mike muttered.

"Seven years..." Levi said. "I thought I would finally get him out of my life... but it seems no matter what I do, this man just keeps on coming back."

Mike placed a comforting hand on Levi's shoulder.

"Don't worry, he's not here in Trost." Mike took the paper and read the content. "He's probably still at the capital... or somewhere in Sinna. He's still under surveillance, so he can't leave the district. If he violates that, he goes back in."

"I think that's the only thing that keeps me sane..." Levi sighed. "But... I can't take any chances... Kenny is the last person I want near my family. I can't let him fuck this up..."

"Don't worry, he won't. Does Maria know?"

"No... she and Iris are out of town; they went to visit her mother at Orvud –"

Levi stopped upon realization. A few days ago, Maria was called by her mother, Irina, to visit. The ex-wife of Randal Reed was living in a small apartment in Orvud, living a luxurious single-life, and has been seeking the company of her children and grandchild, and another reason is for her children to make amends. The problem was, Orvud was in Sinna. And Kenny's formerly convicted in Stohess, a city near Orvud and within Kenny's reach. Jumping from his seat, Levi grabbed his jacket, keys and bag, and started to walk out of the station.
