Bring Your Kid to Work Day

“Wake up, brat.”

Iris barely managed to open one eye, but even with the blurry sight she could see her father glaring down at her, standing his usual pose with his chin up and arms crossed over his chest. She rolled her eyes, turned her back at him and pulled her blanket over her head. The blanket was pulled off her immediately, and the pillow, and to make this worse, Levi opened all of the curtains and lets in the morning sun.

“Get up, wash your face and brush your fucking teeth,” said Levi. “And get dressed. Don’t make me pull your mattress, young lady.”

Groaning, Iris got up, her hair messy as her face. “What’s the point… it’s not like I have school.”

“Being suspended is different from a fucking weekend. And because you’re suspended, you’re coming with me to the station.”

She was about to roll her eyes but her father dared her to do so with a single look. Levi was not in the mood for her attitude, especially not after the call he and her mother had from the principal about what she did at school to a classmate of hers which involved a fists, some volleyballs, and a shoe.

The other student that was involved in the fight was a girl named Yelena, and the cause of the argument was believed to be some petty argument in a practice match during Iris’ volleyball training. When Maria and Levi arrived, the two girls were already bandaged up, with Iris having a gash at the cheek, and her knuckles wrapped in bandages as they were raw from punching the girl beside her. As the volleyball coach explained to the parents the cause of the argument (some name calling and dissing each others’ play), Levi and Maria were furious to know that their daughter was, once again, suspended for a fight. They thought Mike’s exercises to harness her anger was helping, but it seems Iris took his advice on “putting all her anger to exercise and the ball” too seriously and spiked the ball hard into Yelena’s face, breaking the girl’s nose.

“One more incident, and I am afraid that Iris will be expelled.” The Principal told them.

On the ride home, Iris received a long lecture from her parents, and it did not stop when they were tending to her raw fists and the gash at her cheek. Even when they tucked her in and said good night, they were still lecturing her.

But it seems, the punishment was not the long and deafening sermons, it was the fact that she was going to be with her father at the station. Working community service. An agreement Levi and Maria agreed to since both had work, and the latter at court the next day.

Arriving at the station, Iris followed her father to his desk. Many greeted them with a smile, and other joked about Iris’ suspension, which earned a glare from Levi, especially those who congratulated Iris for spiking the ball at her opponent’s face.

“How did you even know about that?” Levia questioned Ness, he never said anything to any one about the incident.

“Captain Joseph,” Ness shrugged.

Of course, Leon was there when the incident happened, and the boy must have told his father, and Joseph told everyone in the station. Having a good laugh at it. Well, they won’t be laughing if it was their kid who was being threatened to be expelled.

Coming to his table, Levi pointed at the empty seat and told Iris to sit down as he prepared for his meeting with his team, and look for who will babysit her as she did her community service.

“Please don’t make me clean the toilet,” Iris sighed as she waited for her punishment.

“While that is a good way to serve your community service, and I’m sure you’ll learn a thing or two by giving the sinks a good scrub,” Levi paused in his preparation and turned to his daughter who was pouting at him. “I’m not that evil to make you do something like that.”
