Mary led El outside their hideaway, graffiti littered the walls from Axel's boredom. El followed her sister cautiously, scoping out the environment.
"I was just like you once. I kept my anger inside. I tried to hide from it, but then that pain festered." Mary says as she begins walking backwards, sending her sister a smile.
"Festered?" El questioned softly, Mary nodding. "It spread. But I finally confronted my pain, and I began to heal. Come on." Mary says as she leads then under a gate, off short ledge.
The sisters stood in front of an old cargo train, El looking at the old train.
"Do you see that train?" Mary questioned, El nodding. "Yes." El says. "I want you to bring it to us." Mary says as El looks to her sister hesitantly.
"I know you can." Mary whispers, El simply brought her hand up and looked ahead. The train creaked loudly, moving a bit, but not towards them.
El dropped her hand with a sigh, leaning down with her hands on her knees. "I can't." El says softly. Mary brings her sister's face up, wiping the blood off her face with her sleeve.
"Last night you told me you lifted a van once." Mary says softly. "Yes." El says. "The bad men were trying to take you again, and that made you angry." Mary says, El nodding as she remembered that day.
"Good. So, find that anger, focus on that, not the train, not its weight." Mary says as El once again raises her hand in front of her.
"I want you to find something from your life. Something that angers you." Mary says, going through her sister's mind.
Mary saw her memories, and El's anger increasing. "Now channel it." Mary says, noticing how the train began to move towards them.
"Dig deeper. Your whole life you've been lied to." Mary says, the train's wheels sparking up. "Imprisoned. The bad men took away your home, our mother...They took everything from you." Mary says, El's glare becoming harsher.
"They stole your life, Jane!" Mary exclaims as El screams, the train a mere few meters away from them. When El fell to the floor, Mary followed suit and hugged the girl.
"Yeah! Yeah, Jane!" Mick shouts with the rest of Mary's friends. Mary turned to El with a soft smile. "See. You're strong. How do you feel?" Mary questions. "Good." El says.
That afternoon, Kali led the entire group into their small briefing room. "These are the bad men, as you call them. The one's we believe are still alive. Do you know any?" Kali questioned El.
The younger girl looked around, her eyes finally stopping on a photo.
"Him. He hurt Mama." El says, turning to Mary who sent a sad smile to the girl. "His name is Ray Caroll. And he did more than hurt your mother." Kali says, remembering what that man did to her.
"The bad men like Ray, they know about us. It's made them hard to track. But maybe not anymore." Kali says.
Mary tied a blindfold around El's eyes, looking at her sister. "If you want out, just say the word okay?" Mary questions, El nods. "Okay." El says softly.
Mary sat on the ground, watching her sister's every move. But when El tore the paper in two, she took her blindfold off.
Mary rose a brow as El nodded, turning to the rest of the group.
""Gramercy Apartments. Washington and Bethel." That's gotta be it. Right?" Dottie questions as Kali grabs the phone book out of Dottie's hands.
""Lilburn." Where is that?" Kali questions. "About an hour east." Funshine confirms, Mary nodding. "We don't even have a new ride." Mick says, Mary turning to her.
"So we swap plates. We have plates, right?" Mary questions, Axel nodding. "Yeah." The man confirms.
"It's risky." Mick says. "Where's the fun if there's no risk? We want to give my sister a memorable first day, right?" Mary questions, sending her sister a smile. El returning it.
"I'm in. For Miss Jane." Funshine says. "Yeah, sure. Why not? Mick?" Axel questions, everyone turning to Mick who sat on the stairs. "Screw it!" Mick exclaimed.
Mary put her coat on and tied her hair back. When she walked into the room, she saw El putting on her dark coat, the girl dressed more like her.
"Bitchin'." Mary says, El grinning. "Bitchin'." El agrees. Mary grabbed a black bandanna that she kept in her jacket, and tied it around her sister's wrist.
"Hide your secrets until they need to be revealed." Mary says, El nodding in confirmation.
The entire group walked out back, taking the tarp off of their van. Eventually climbing in and beginning their trek.
"How about this one?" Mary questions as she holds up a mask towards El, eventually shaking her head.
"Aw look, a doll mask." Mary says as she places it over her sister's face. "Cause you're a doll face." Mary says, laughing at her own joke. Everyone groaned, but El giggled just cause her sister was happy.
When they pulled up to the gas station, El stood behind Mary. "What are we doing?" El questions before they left. "Stocking up." Mary says as she holds out her hand, a small smirk on her face.
"Shall we?" Mary questions with an accent, this made El giggle. "Okay." El says as they walk into the convenience store.
"Hey, your bathroom is leaking." Kali says as just as they walked in. "Oh shit." The man at the register walked towards the bathroom, nothing on the floor.
"Okay, contestants, you have a minute and a half, let's begin your supermarket sweep!" Axel exclaims softly, Mary skipping around the store.
Mary picked up a bunch of nerds boxes, then grabbing a coke. But when she made her way to the front, she heard the man from the register shout.
"Hey! Put that back, or I'll blow your head off. You hear me, freak?" The man shouts, this made Kali and Mary walk up to him, their hands up.
"Put the gun down." Mary says, the man turning to glare at her. "Stay back. Stay back." The man says.
"Darrel, your money is insured. We're only stealing from the war criminal billionaires who own this place." Kali says, Mary nodding. "You won't even lose a dime." Mary agrees.
"I said stay back." Darrel continues. "We're on the same side. I promise." Mary states, just as the man was about to pull the trigger, he was thrown into the Styrofoam coolers in the wall, El shouting.
"Damn, Shirley." Axel says as he admired the girl's work, but with the sound of police sirens wailing, they rushed out of the store.
Mary grinned as she started to eat some of her candy. "Want some?" Mary questions to El who nodded a bit. Mary dumped a handful of Nerds into her sister's hands, the younger girl eating them one at a time.
"You can eat them all at once." Mary says, El looking at her confused. "Like this." Mary says as she pours a small amount into her hands, then pouring them into her mouth.
El does the same, her eyes widening. "You like?" Mary questions, El nodding excitedly. That night, they made it to the apartment buildings Mary put her zombie mask on.
"Ooh." Mary says as she wiggles her fingers, El's eyes widening. "We should case the place, stick to the routine. We have time." Mick says.
"We also have her. Can you look?" Mary questions, knowing her abilities could do the same, but she needed more training. El then shut her eyes lightly, everyone looking at her.
"He's watching television." El says as she opens her eyes. "Is he alone?" Mick questions. "I saw him. No one else." El says.
Mary shrugs as she looks at Kali. "Good enough for me." Kali says. "Me too." Mary says as she gets out of the van with her zombie mask on.
