SOHAYB:

My eyes filled with tears as I watched the smoke rise up into the air followed by another loud explosion.

"La illaha illa allah" I whispered feeling weak and defeated. I ran as far as I could. I needed to escape.

Just moments before my father had given me a whistle. " Blow on it ya waladi if you are in danger, I will come right away no matter how far in sha allah . It can be heard from miles away. Ill be back as soon as I can." He ran towards home. We had just finished working when the explosions began. We were still unsure if my mother was alive at home.

My heart sank when I realized she could possibly be dead.

I never saw him again. I know he was dead because I later saw his body as I was running. There was no time to stop.

A part of me wishes I had disobeyed him and went with him. I didn't have the heart to break my promise of staying put.

I had to keep going. It was my mothers dream for me to become a doctor. Her dream was my will to live.

I don't know where I'm going. I've been running all night. Im tired.

My knees felt weak. I collapsed on the ground. " help me ya Allah" I whispered.

I closed my eyes and everything went black.
